Unbelievable.

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Unbelievable.

I posted this here after reading “We need to check your guns??”

Check out the first requirement to get a CHL in Delaware.

In order for your application for a license to carry a concealed deadly weapon to be processed, the following steps must be completed:

1.Arrange with a newspaper of general circulation in your County to have your application published once, at least (10) days before the filing of your application with the Court. Obtain an affidavit from the newspaper company stating that this requirement has been met, and attach it to your application. PLEASE NOTE: Newspaper selection must have a circulation of at least 35% of the population in your zip code. Be sure to use your whole name - no initials - and your home address.

Thank God I live in Texas. :txflag:
God Bless America, and please hurry.
When I was young I knew all the answers. When I got older I started to realize I just hadn’t quite understood the questions.-Me

(Link please? This sounds like satire, or urban legend, or something...)

ARE THERE any remaining newspapers ANYWHERE that have 35% of the population in ANY zip code?

(Any by the way, other than the obvious intimidation factor, what is the purpose of this?)

edit: it looks legit -- http://courts.delaware.gov/forms/download.aspx?ID=33278" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also note #3
Have the reference questionnaires completed by five (5) citizens from the County in which you reside.
But then, it's only $65...

Unfortunately, it appears to be real. Here is a link to the instructions from the Delaware Superior Court on how to obtain a license. Number 1 covered in the instructions is the aforementioned publishing of your application in the paper. Note that it also requires references from 5 people in your county farther down.

The application itself also requests your specific reason for wanting a concealed carry permit (protection of property or self, etc).

Instructions: http://courts.delaware.gov/forms/download.aspx?ID=33278
Application: http://courts.delaware.gov/forms/download.aspx?ID=33068

Sad really...

As long as you follow the reciprocity agreement as it is laid out...basically follow their rules while in their state...

Yes. We'll be traveling there this May or June and I just checked on this yesterday.

Do you think 'ol Joe would agree to be one of my 5 references?
What if I promise to only carry a shotgun and always shoot through the door before I can confirm the ID of my target?

Delaware, like NJ and MD is actually two different States. I worked in downtown Wilmington for several years. It is much closer politically to NYC than the rest of the State. As you drive South, the political climate changes. There are a lot of great folks who would fit right in here in Texas. The same with the Eastern shore of MD, also part of the territory that I covered.

It wouldn't be a surprise to anyone, I suspect, to learn that the Libs in Wilmington act just like Chicago/Cook County and make the rules for everyone else in the State. There are a lot of wonderful people in downstate DE. Around Wilmington, not so much. BTW, DuPont IS Wilmington.

We spent a lot of time at the seaside resorts. We liked Rehobath Beach, DE a lot better than Ocean City, MD or Wildwood, NJ. I had a chance to go back to Rehobath last summer but I didn't carry. Our route took us through part of NJ and I didn't want to take the chance.
