Negotiators will reconvene this week to try to hammer out a landmark U.N. treaty designed to regulate the multibillion-dollar global arms trade amid objections from a bipartisan group of legislators and the most powerful gun-rights lobbying group in the U.S.

Governmental representatives will meet in New York starting Monday to try to reach consensus on the Arms Trade Treaty, which would require all countries to establish national regulations to control the transfer of conventional arms and to regulate arms brokers.

Another lame attempt to do an end run around the 2nd Amendment. This time, it is under the guise of "we had to register / take your guns. The treaty says we had to...we had no choice."

I'm still convinced that the short-term goal of the treaty is to do what it says: regulate the INTERNATIONAL SALE of arms. Thus being that it will become nigh on impossible for citizens in the USA to get any imported firearms or ammunition. And just what will that do to the already high price of ammo and the meager supply of firearms? Yep, the prices go up as the supply goes down, forcing people out of the shooting "sports". Its all about those stinking antis finding ways to decrease the numbers of folks with firearms so that there will be less and less opposition to any and all gun control efforts in the future. The eventual goal is still to confiscate all of them, at least out of the hands of the regular citizens (the criminals will always find a way to be armed) and the uber-rich will still get anything they want. This treaty is garbage, through and through.

IMHO, it most certainly could because its an imported firearm. And this is what I'm talking about. Sure, initially there would be a surge of profits for American manufacturers but even with increased manufacturing there would be no way to keep up with demand. Some companies might be forced out of business by this, there would be fewer total manufacturers (and thus easier for the government to control), and the prices would be higher because supply would be lower. Also, competition from outside sources forces American manufacturers to innovate...without it, their quality might slip. I HATE this UN gun treaty with a passion. But then again, I'm no fan of the UN otherwise, either.

Or maybe Glock and the rest open up manufacturing facilities here, if it makes financial sense. If it doesn't for them, or they guess wrong, thousands of small manufacturers will stuff their garages and workshops with machines and start making parts, then entire guns. I know some who do that already. Can you say "LaRue", or "JP" the first two that come to mind.

If it is a big enough problem, it will be a big enough opportunity. The best opportunities come thoroughly disguised as unsolvable problems.

This is not to say the treaty is a good or desirable idea, of course.

they could move manufacturing to the U.S....but not in IL.

how can a UN mandate/treaty/document overule our laws?

we need a revolt and reset

the UN has no authority over US citizens, despite what they may think and barry cannot ratify any treaty to the like without congressional approval....
unless the rule shave been changed or added to the health care law

U.S. Rights: As the world body meets this week to hammer out an agreement to restrict international arms trade, our Secretary of State commits us to pushing a treaty that may also restrict our Second Amendment rights.

Last Friday, the day of the week when unpopular or controversial announcements are traditionally made, Secretary of State John Kerry announced U.S. support for the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), a final version of which is being hammered out in New York beginning this week.

Certainly the ATT is controversial. Touted as a means of getting a handle on an international arms trade valued at $60 billion a year, its stated purpose is to keep illicit weapons out of the hands of terrorists, insurgent fighters and organized crime at an international level.
