The latter source was present when the photograph was taken, and said that Giffords had requested it for campaign purposes during October 2010.
According to the source, the image sent to Breitbart News was cropped to protect the identity of the person on the right-hand side of the original photograph (to Giffords's left).
The source, who is a member of the law enforcement community, told Breitbart News:
"We were told she wanted to toughen her image. She asked to come out and she wanted to shoot a rifle. She had one of our guys out there to show her how to shoot an AR-15."

Breathtaking. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

At least she chose the 15 year old "boy target" over the standard at my range, A-rab/ak-47 BG.
Much more politically correct ...

I could be wrong, but man that target looks like Justin Beiber. Go Gabby - one less Beiber in the world.
Yes, this is very hypocritical. However, it only takes one life experience to change someone's viewpoint on certain ideals. It looks like this was taken before her accident. It's sad that, being a victim of gun violence, she now supports limiting citizens' ability to protect themselves from just that: gun violence. And shame on Mr. Kelly. 'Nuff said.

Yes, it was taken before she was shot. And I agree about Justin Beiber.
Edited to add:
However, I think it's still hypocritical to be all for guns rights, and then against gun rights because you get shot. So, for her, it was AOK as long as other people were victims, but she gets shot, and suddenly we need to ban guns? What that tells me is that her position is not based in principle but merely in personal convenience. I also find her getting a "courage" medal repulsive because it takes no courage to be an unsuspecting gun shot victim.

You won't find any argument here!!

Bieber's face looks like it's been cut and pasted on there. There are no holes in it, but there are holes near it. Plus, look at how she's holding the rifle. She doesn't have a clue and I wouldn't be surprised to find out she didn't even shoot it and just posed for the picture. That's even worse than being hypocritical to me. That's flat out lying!

I don't believe it to be hypocritical, any more so than the old saw, "A conservative is a liberal who's been raped, mugged, etc." would be. Personal epiphanies do occur, that in this instance one has occurred that has a negative impact on my beliefs makes it no less real, or any more hypocritical than had it gone the other way.

Wish they had gotten a photo of her husband Mark Kelly buying that evil AR recently as well...
Then taking it to the Po-Po, to turn it in to say how easy it was for him to do so...
You know, you might be smart enough to fly and command the space shuttle, but this guy proves you can be dumber than a bag of hammers when it comes to firearms...
I noticed in the picture she was really good at trying to shoot the gun out of the paper targets hands...

Not to flame, but I think that calling it hypocritical is a bit harsh. Gabby Gifford did have a terrible and traumatic experience, and I would not be at all surprised if her attitude about guns has changed since the time she was shot. I think that is normal and natural.
Anyone who has been victimized is going to be emotional, but justice can rarely be achieved by victims fueled by rage.. If you are the parent of a child who is murdered or assaulted, your reaction would probably be to do some very violent and unGodly things to the person who hurt your child, but the law does not allow that. In theory, objectively minded police officers are supposed to arrest a suspect, jurors are supposed to determine guilt and a judge is charged with determining a fair sentence.
In the same way, the Constitution and Bill of Rights protects the freedom of U.S. citizens and ensures that emotionally driven citizens and victims rights groups don't strip away our freedoms based on their own fears or experiences. The left tries to portray Gabby Gifford as a knowledgeable voice due to her tragedy, but in reality, Gifford is not qualified to be suggesting gun control policies for the nation specifically because she had a terrible experience which prevents her from being logical and objective in her views.

Giffords and her husband are being used and manipulated by the usual suspects that have been chomping at the bit for something like this to happen, so they can exploit people like them...
And for these two to not realize that, and continue to be used as tools for such an agenda speaks to their lack of character and virtue...
I can certainly dig the emotional distress they experienced, I have no quarrel with that...But to be caught up and taken advantage of, and not eventually rejecting that manipulation is inexcusable...
They are the enemy now to OUR freedoms and liberties, plain and simple...No matter how tragic their circumstances are...

Using that logic, anyone who has been in an accident caused by a drunk driver should be calling for bans on all cars (and not just for punishing the drunk drivers).

IMHO, you are missing the point, or at least, how I see the issue. If I am hit by a drink driver, and spend 6 months in the hospital, do I blame the driver, alcohol or the car? Which one should I try to get banned? Using the case of the Giffords and their position, you would ban the car, or at lease ban alcohol.
I am not against anyone having traumatic experiences and having a change of view; that's what makes us human. I am against you trying to blame something it was not and take it away from responsible people.
Now, I have to find people that will stand with me to ban automobiles, alcohol and stupid people because we have drunk drivers.
