Universal background checks passes committee

#1

Post by philip964 »

One of my female liberal facebook friends posted this news (she was all excited naturally)

"A few hours ago, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 10-8 to approve universal background checks for all gun purchases.

The next step is a vote before the full U.S. Senate, which could happen as early as next month.

But, amazingly, while background checks are supported by more than 90% of Americans, there's still work left to do to convince a majority of Senators.

I won't stop until we do." --Gabby Giffords

I have not seen it anywhere else.

According to PopVox, only S.54 has passed out of committee. That's the straw purchase bill. According to thomas.loc.gov, no bill with background check in it has left committee.

A Senate committee approved legislation on Tuesday that would expand background checks covering all U.S. firearms sales, part of a federal gun-control push prompted by December's school massacre in Connecticut.

The Judiciary Committee decision by a party-line vote of 10-8 cleared the way for the Democratic-crafted background check measure to be debated and put to a vote in the full Senate.
