Terminology and the mass media
So, I'm at the FoxNews site, reading this story and what do I see? The phrase "excess capacity magazines". In excess of what? Oh, yeah, the gun grabbers' magic ten round limit, I guess. THIS is the exact sort of stuff that needs to be pushed back against. I wish I could have contacted the author of the story, but it is incredibly hard to do that through some media outlets.
Anyway, here is the link to the story:

Re: Terminology and the mass media
Hey, they used the word magazine.
There is hope that they are learning. I like OWNING excess capacity more than I do high capacity or large capacity.
They are going to use a term to describe them. What term(s) do you like?
EDITED to ADD:
Okay, that came out TOTALLY wrong / different than I wanted it to. How come you guys don't know what I mean.
I was meaning that I like to own excessive capacity mags because they have more bullets.

If guns kill people, do pens misspell words?
I like options: Sig Sauer | DPMS | Springfield Armory | Glock | Beretta

High or large capacity magazine means it holds a certain number but more than average, excessive capacity means it holds way more than you need.

For pistols:RX8er wrote:Hey, they used the word magazine. There is hope that they are learning. I like excess capacity more than I do high capacity or large capacity.

Standard Capacity = a magazine that fits in the grip of a pistol without extending beyond the bottom of the grip (other than the plate) that holds as many rounds as will fit and function correctly.
Extended Capacity = longer than that.
Limited Capacity = a magazine deliberately blocked from carrying the number of round held by a Standard Capacity magazine for that pistol and caliber.
For rifles:
Standard Capacity = largest magazine size in prominent and common use. (ie: 30 for ARs)
Extended Capacity = more than that
Limited Capacity = less than that

Re: Terminology and the mass media
I have no desire to own anything other than 30 round mags for my AR and standard mags for my pistols. 15 rounds of 9mm being the most I have in a standard pistol magazine.RX8er wrote:Okay, that came out TOTALLY wrong / different than I wanted it to. How come you guys don't know what I mean.![]()

I don't like the bulk of stuff hanging out of the grip or the excess weight throws off balance.
I have some 5 round AICS mags for my Remington 700, but I'd really like to get a few 10 round mags too.
Re: Terminology and the mass media
Now that's excessive, you only need 3 rounds to get a deer.android wrote:I have no desire to own anything other than 30 round mags for my AR and standard mags for my pistols. 15 rounds of 9mm being the most I have in a standard pistol magazine.RX8er wrote:Okay, that came out TOTALLY wrong / different than I wanted it to. I don't have any of those excess capacity magazines. I would like some of those. I just have this "limited" capactiy magazine:MeMelYup wrote:High or large capacity magazine means it holds a certain number but more than average, excessive capacity means it holds way more than you need.

Nope. You are wrong. With correct rubber sleeve thingy, the 17rd magazine in my px4 subcompact is called Extended Grip. A device that aids the in the gun control.RoadRunnerTR21 wrote:OK, let me get this straight. If I have my 17 round mag in my full size Beretta PX4 it is called standard capacity. However, if I put that same mag in my compact Beretta PX4 it is called excess capacity? I'm so confused.

There is no definition. One man's "excess" is another man's "good starter kit".

Nicely done, thank you.
