The race will be called the NRA 500 and will be run during prime time.
I love this. I hope they double their membership in one weekend. I've never been to a NASCAR race, but I can see the speedway from my upstairs home office window. I've been using the races the last couple of weeks as a background for my Sunday afternoon naps. . . still not what you'd consider a devoted fan, but the intrigue has been growing. . . and this will definitely get me to tune in.

So the NRA is sponsoring an event where people cannot exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.
A bit of a miscue in my opinion.

I prefer to see it as the NRA promoting an event where they can get their message of second amendment rights to 200,000 on site fan rather than as a 30.06 message. Would love to be a volunteer that day.

I used to be more into watching NASCAR races when I worked with several guys that were big fans. I've tapered off my race viewing over the past few years but I still like to keep up with how my favorite drivers are doing. I have some friends in Austin that come up and camp in the infield at TMS twice a year. Two are pro-gun, though I'm not sure if they're NRA members. Hopefully they will be after this race. One is anti and I'm sure he'll be walking around with a rock in his shoe all weekend and especially during the NRA 500.

Perhaps this might be a good example of another instance where criticizing the lack of perfection is not as constructive as supporting the overriding goal.
With all respect, I disagree with your current assessment of this and urge you to give it some further thought.

There will be people using that as evidence the NRA doesn't support concealed carry (such as GOA) for years to come. With a touch more planning they could have chosen a race in a state that does allow concealed carry at sporting events.
The NRA is the big dog. As such, they are pretty savvy that their every move will be watched, dissected, and analyzed. I am not saying this is disastrous, just that it was a bit of a miscue.

This is not the first NASCAR event sponsored by NRA

It's the second time in a year that the NRA will be the title sponsor of a NASCAR event. Last September, the organization backed the NRA American Warriors 300, a Nationwide Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
While Georgia also does not allow CHL holders to carry at sporting events, it would be rather difficult to expect NRA to only put its message out there in states where you agree with the current concealed carry laws.
It might not be perfect, but it sure gets the message out to a huge crowd.

They are running this race backwards, so everyone turns right.
And the driver is actually riding shotgun.

Great. Name the state. (Has to be where they race.)

Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Indiana, Nevada, Arizona, ...
Do I need to keep going?

That race is on TNT. That's not even close to national coverage. I think that would be a bigger "miscue" than this supposed one.

So how many people watching the race will even know that we can't carry at sporting events?
Bristol or Martinsville would be good choices, but there would have to be an opening for a sponsor. Food City has sponsored Bristol since 1961, so I doubt the NRA could even get a foot in the door. Goody's has sponsored Martinsville forever, but this year STP is. Don't know if the NRA would have had a chance there. Richmond doesn't draw as many fans or TV viewers as Texas does and it's a Saturday nite race that competes with lots of other activities.
The Texas race has changed sponsors every year, so the opening was obvious, I would think.
