Ultimately, I have faith in the power if free markets to satisfy market demand.
If there is a market demand for this media, there are going to be people who develop new companies and their products to meet this market.

You know it isn't that hard to start new publications in this day and age.

Are the print media still around?

It sounded to me like a large impact in firearms-positive visual media - video rather than print. Since in the modern "information age", we are seeing the social impact of low-information voters, this may indeed be another step/slide down the slippery slope we are on.

That really stinks. Liberal-progressives ruin most everything they touch, IMO. I like "Shooting Times".

This is a tricky thing. Ostensibly, you buy a business to make money, earn a return on investment, generate cash flow etc.
The folks who buy newspapers are swimming against the tide anyway, as newspapers are having a hard time keeping eyeballs right now. To buy a newspaper that is prospering in a pro gun environment, promoting pro gun views maybe, and turn it into the opposite is very courageous. To buy one that has been losing revenue, customers and money in hopes of turning it around is even more so. As Warren Buffett put it, "When a management with a reputation for brilliance tackles a business with a reputation for bad economics, it is the reputation of the business that remains intact."
Nobody HAS to read a newspaper, or advertize in one. There are work-arounds, unless you are the local supermarket running full page ads for specials every week, etc.
Customers ultimately determine a business' policies.
People who are pro gun will eventually get tired of an anti-newspaper and not subscribe anymore, if the anti slant becomes prominent. Or, they get lots of practice writing letters to the editor, pointing out the absurdities in the editorial slant. It might be the start of a whole new career for someone.
If you try to offend nobody, you will eventually offend everybody.
And, if you get too crazy, some busybody might be tempted to start up another newspaper and attract all your eyeballs.

I always believed that the "vote with your pocketbook" was what worked best when dealing with the media and other businesses that were overly against those issues that I hold near and dear. I dropped the local newspaper some 20 years ago when our squirrly little "reporter" absolutely blasted a 14 year old girl's grammer and spelling in a "letter to the editor" complaining about liberal policies creeping into the education curiculum. I stopped watching any and all "network programming" about the same time, and never see the advertising anyway so I don't have any idea what manufacturers to whine to. They probably don't reach me anyway. Both print and tv "news" is now nothing but opinion pieces from the ignorant "journalists" (and that title is used very loosly), and little if any is actually reporting of the facts alone. Personally, I don't like the fact that I have to scour the internet in order to assemble enough believable information that tends to make some sense of an issue, but that's the way it seems to have moved. As for firearms related publications .... most of the product reviews are certainly slanted (my son does product reviews, and I have done some in the past, so I know the "drill"). Reviewers (for the most part) are paid for their service, so a "good review" tells the next manufacturer that you are the go-to guy for them too. If there is any truth to this story that an evil force is trying to kill all the firearms journalism (which I really doubt), the market place will remedy the situation if it so chooses.

Echhhh, I'm not worried...I don't really watch too much TV anymore anyway...
The folks that lost their jobs though...That does bother me...
But look at it this way...The boss comes in and says if you move to Peoria, Illinois you'll get to keep your job...
Hehehe, there is not enough salary to get me to move to Illinois...
Have a nice day boss...See ya...
Funny thing about the media, those folks without a job can certainly band together, form their own productions company, get sponsors, advertizers, produce topical programs, and buy the airtime...
See, even in an environment where they were, they still had to buy airtime...So nothing other than the ownership has changed...
Doesn't seem like a great leap needs to happen...You have to re-tool the programming in some way shape or form, rename a few things to stay away from copyrights, Charles would know something about this stuff...
While Peoria tries to re-invent themselves, the folks back in Montana should be able to jump right back into it...The sponsors and advertizers certainly don't have to go with whatever is going to be put out in Peoria...
Just my opinion...

This is another post from the same forum:
drc wrote:I asked Mike Venturino (he hangs out on one of the forums I belong to) if he had heard anything about it. This is a direct quote from one of his answers.
MLV wrote:I got an e-mail reply from the boss of both Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times that he also heard read this on the Internet but he has heard nothing about it.
drc wrote:.. I asked Mike Venturino, and that is what he said. Nothing more, nothing less. I thought that if anyone would have some good information it would be him.
So as I said, we will just have to keep a watch and see what further develops.

I sent a message to Sheriff Jim Wilson, who happens to write articles for some of the firearms magazines, about this. He looked into the whole Soros-Cerebrus-Freedom Group myth when I asked about that, so hopefully he will look into this, too. I'm sure he has a lot of connections, he's been in that business for a little while now.

Sheriff Jim Wilson replied to me earlier today. He said he had heard nothing of the sort, and took it to be nothing more than an internet rumor.

If this turns out to be bogus. That's good news. It's frustrating that so much disinformation is out there.
