The law makers of New York City should realize that meat cleavers are deadly, dangerous weapons, and they should now immediately pass a law requring background checks and licenses for meat cleavers and other forms of cutlery. What are most dangerous are the commercial meat cleavers that can inflict an 8 inch hack within seconds, these should be completely outlawed. The fact that many people own these, and use them safely should not be a factor in the outlawing of these dangerous weapons. CONTROL THE SALE OF CUTLERY IMMEDIATELY AND OUTLAW MEAT CLEAVERS ALTOGETHER. Who uses a meat cleaver in their house anyway? Meat cleavers are used for commerical butcher shops and Chinese restuarants, the public has no use for meat cleavers, they should only be used by people who have been trained to use them. NO ONE HAS A BUTCHER SHOP IN THEIR HOME, NOR DO PEOPLE NEED TO SLAUGHTER ANIMALS ANYMORE. MEAT CLEAVERS ARE MADE FOR ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY TO HACK MEAT AND TO KILL PEOPLE. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE THESE IMPLIMENTS OF DEATH.

I have a meat cleaver. It's a nice Global 7-inch stainless steel cleaver. Goes through bone like butter. They can try to take it, and then I can have it back when I pry it from their cold, dead hands. :)
