An NFL player had a gun in his carry on luggage while going through screening at the airport. In Houston I don't think you would be arrested. But it was New York City.
I put this under political issues and not in the crime blotter. I kind of consider him a political prisoner now.

As much as those guys travel, you would think he would have known better. It will be interesting to see if he gets the same draconian treatment as so many others.

Wouldn't it be a 46.03 violation and a 3rd degree felony in Texas? I can't imagine a HPD passing on the opportunity make that arrest.

HPD is not soft on gun infractions that I have heard. Airports in general don't have a sense of humor on this either.

Doesn't sound like he's the sharpest tool in the shed.

He is an elite. He will get off with nothing as it should be. I see no reason why this even made the news.

Only if you got it through...

Yes, but at least our *last* Harris County D.A., Pat Lykos, declined to file any charges when it appeared unlikely that there was *intent* to smuggle the gun onto the plane.
HPD can be as hard-nosed as they want, it's the D.A. who decides whether to press charges. Not the police.

Somewhere I had read Houston seemed to be more soft on arresting you for accidental gun infractions at the airport. Where as DFW was not.

I may be lost but I though airport security violations came under federal authority and not district attorneys.

Yes and No.
The TSOs at an airport screening point do not have the power/authority to make an arrest. They must contact the appropriate LE organization(city police, county sheriff), who effects the arrest. Prosecution in such circumstances fall under state/municipal laws in regards weapons carry.
That said, the second string to the TSA bow is civil penalties.
