Danny Glover speaks at Texas A & M, says that 2nd amendment was created to help with slavery.

My understanding gun laws were originally created to keep freed slaves from having guns.

I suspect most victims of random gun violence in America are African American in locations where guns are illegal or difficult for African Americans (or anyone) to legally own.

actually both of those schools of thought are incorrect. The second ammendment was written as an affirmation of a right that superceded any government (god given for those that believe) The laws written that coverd other things such as slaves ( black or white) were not considered free men and therefore property and property cannot own property. so see where this is going?

It seems like hot buttons are:
Assault Weapons
Race
Protection of Children
Back ground checks
Etc. . .

Anything they can do to bring diversity.

But when black people were no longer slaves and considered property by law, isn't it gospel that the first "gun control" laws were written in the south as part of Jim Crow? That has always been my understanding. In fact, I have read that while the laws were written generally to apply to all people (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), they were only enforced against black people.

I'll say it ...
Anyone (Danny Glover if applicable) saying that is a liar and trying to exploit/take unfair advantage of appeal to those uneducated persons who go on emotion instead of historical fact

So, here's an education with some resources:

MLK was a victim of gun control, He applied for but was denied a carry permit
Martin Luther King, Jr. kept guns for personal protection. He applied for but was denied a carry permit.

No slaves were ever allowed to have guns
LOGIC.101
SHOW ME any slaves which were armed EVER- You can't enslave an armed population

The KKK wanted gun control:
Only Freemen were allowed to own guns:
Once Slaves got guns the KKK was less powerful:

There is an old old court case, I think it was a Florida? Judge? who ruled that gun control laws were never intended to apply to whites ... I can't find it now though.

I'll say it ...
Danny Glover is a liar and trying to appeal to those uneducated persons who go on emotion instead of historical fact

Danny needs to call up Mr Colin Noir and have a chat about gun control laws vs. race. Danny's just blowing smoke while waiting for his next shoot-out movie to start filming. Hypocrite.

Of the non-white population in that list ... I found Obama's timing of promoting a gun control agenda after vacationing with his lighter skinned relatives half of the family in Hawaii interesting ... just sayin' if Mr. Glover is coming to divide people based on race and lie to them, look closely at facts... some gun control laws were passed later to restrain Black Panthers ... it's about people control, ...

Might be a good idea to include some of this I posted above or other historical FACTS in responses to media hype and lies

Actually, if you think about, gun control is racist today for the mere fact that so much of the modern black culture (rap music, gangs, etc.) are firearms centric.

Danny Glover: 2nd Amendment aimed at slaves
Constitution gave owners' 'right to protect themselves'

Sign the Petition Against Liberal Bias at Texas A&M

The 2nd Amendment was for killing Native Americans and slaves.
America is still a racist society.
Occupy Wall Street was creative and praiseworthy.
The Constitution is obsolete.
A&M will continue racial preferences in hiring and admissions.
Martin Luther King would be fighting global warming today.

These are the messages Texas A&M promoted for Martin Luther King Day 2013. Instead of honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and promoting true equality, A&M reaffirmed its commitment to the far-left agenda by hosting Danny Glover to speak on campus for the sixth annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast.

This is the third year in a row that they have hosted radical leftist speakers, from Angela Davis (a former black panther and once on the FBI's most wanted list) to Harry Belafonte, and now Danny Glover. It's quite evident that Texas A&M hasn't learned their lesson from the lawsuit. http://www.adfmedia.org/News/PRDetail/5595" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Funding bias exposed at Texas A&M
ADF files suit against university for prohibiting funds for political, religious groups while allowing funds for others
They forget to mention...MLK was a victim of John Crowe type Gun Control, denied him a carry permit ... how'd that work out for him?

Yeah, I'm wondering if they told Mr. King that the "police will protect you"?

Reading is fundamental

Evidently, Mr Glover failed his US Constitutional history class. Just in case he reads this forum, I will claim the Bill of Rights was motivated by the following:
THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added : And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.
In case Mr Glover has difficulty in finding the above quote, I suggest he read the preamble to the Bill of Rights.
