Will someone please explain....

Will someone please explain the Liberal Mindset to me about this specific point (!!)

Why is a "Barrel Shroud" a factor in Gun Legislation?

How in the world does that make a difference in anything?

Dunno... It's the shoulder thing that goes up.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Thanks Dave. Clarifies their thinking for sure.

Have you EVER seen a barrel shroud on anything? (other than a shotgun, me never)

I think the liberals really meant burial shroud.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Because everyone knows that the shroud is actually 'the shroud of evil' and when you place it on the gun, the the gun takes on a life of it's own and starts it's agenda of mass murder. :reddevil

Now, for the real story, because stupid anti-gun people think the above is real. :banghead:

If it sounds scary, easier to ban. Whether you know what it is or not.

No kidding I've actually seen graphics on anti-gun websites pointing to the forward handguards of an AR-15 and calling these the "barrel shroud" then saying this is only necessary if firing on full auto. Because having an exposed unprotected gas tube on a semi-auto is just fine I guess.

I saw one BIll which DEFINED "Barrel Shroud"

Under the definition it was a shroud or device made from metal, wood or other material which covered or partially covered a barrel or portion of a barrel so a gun could be held by the non-trigger operating hand without being burned"

seriously, one of those rifle guns you hold with two hands would have one.

It's simple, someone saw a fake suppresor that is technically just a barrel shroud and since it looks scary they want to ban them. Simple as that. If it looks scary they don't want us to have it. Really just makes me want it more! This is the insanity we deal with. If it 'looks' like something they don't like, it is some how evil.

Bingo.....they probably "market tested" different components of "assault weapons" to see which ones instilled more fear into the test subjects.

(2) Related definitions.--
(A) Barrel shroud.--The term `barrel shroud'
means a shroud that is attached to, or partially or
completely encircles, the barrel of a firearm so that
the shroud protects the user of the firearm from heat
generated by the barrel, but does not include a slide
that encloses the barrel, and does not include an
extension of the stock along the bottom of the barrel
which does not encircle or substantially encircle the
barrel.

Looks scary may be a plus for them, but I think the real reason is just that it is one more element they can use to ban a gun. They'd add sights, trigger guards, and recoil pads to the list if they could get away with it.
