I am getting the sense that an end to private sales is the "compromise" all gun owners/buyers will force forced to accept.

I for one DO NOT accept this (I used to believe in this until I started thinking through the ramifications of this - the so-called "long game" of gun control).

If we loose the right for individual sales it is just another piece of our 2A rights taken away. They will continue to chip away at them to eventually they are gone completely.

I wonder of the FFLs support this as it will drive business their way.

I don't really have a problem with national database background checks for new gun sales. There's no reason why it shouldn't be as quick as our current background check. However if they make you wait several days ... that's a big problem and there's no reason for it either. But Obama is trying to make it mandatory for ALL sales - even private ones? That little demand may not pass the Constitutional test.

NRA asked BATF to provide a booth for gun-checkout after background checks at gun shows, and the BTAF said we are not interested

If the compromise is only limited to gun-shows and not friend to friend private sale or family to family transfer, then I can live with that.

BTW how the Feds are going to enforce background checks on private sale/transfer?!!!

The only way would be to have a requirement of paperwork for every gun, i.e. registry which we know won't fly.

Fine. They get private party background checks. In exchange I want the Huges Amendment repealed and sound suppressors deregulated. That's compromise.

All he is saying is they support the nics system, and think the mental health aspect of it should be improved. He is careful with his words IMO and does not say they support personal sale checks, just that they would like to see the proposal of how they would enforce it. I'm not against that system for commercial sales but my right to sell private property should vener be required to go through it. I have seen no where the NRA has said they think otherwise. Even when he says they suggested a booth he doesn't say they recommend all sales go through it. I see it more as a recommendation to give people the option. I know I would appreciate the option at a gun show as I personally would not sell to someone without a chl at one. That's my choice though, I am free to make that choice. No one should shove that choice down my throat. If there was an ffl transfer only booth at the show I might use it, might not. Again, give me the choice, don't force me. Forcing this could definitely be a stepping stone to a registry.

A free man should not have to get a permission slip from Uncle Sam before privately transferring a firearm to his son, or selling one to his friend. They say politics is all about compromise. That's the reason we need to elect statesmen instead of politicians.

What about inherited firearms? Ones inherited that are also antique and collectable?

I bought that gun before FTF became illegal (and, at least so far, that would be the truth for me).
