The Myth of 90 Percent: Guns to Mexico

The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S.
While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico.
You've heard this shocking "fact" before -- on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the United States.
-- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it to reporters on a flight to Mexico City.
-- CBS newsman Bob Schieffer referred to it while interviewing President Obama.
-- California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a Senate hearing: "It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors ... come from the United States."
-- William Hoover, assistant director for field operations at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, testified in the House of Representatives that "there is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have either been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States."
There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:
It's just not true!
In fact, it's not even close. By all accounts, it's probably around
17 percent.
Go to Fox news for the full storm, it is worth reading....

Don't worry...
I am jazzed to know that there are a lot of us paying attention and seeing this stuff...
Like I said in the other thread...At least we are all up to speed...
Now, the question is...
What should we do about this??? I believe these lies are too important to just snicker in the back of the classroom about and let go...Just because we know they are lies...
This keeps happening over and over again, and it needs to be stopped...
Sure, you can exercise your First Amendment, but lieing under that cover is not right...
And this BATFE official lied to a congressional hearing...I thought you took an oath to testify truthfully...
If this guy hides under the excuse that the information was what they thought at the time was accurate...Then incompetence sure is a good way to be shown the door at this point??? People I know get fired for less...

It is very good news that everyone is keeping up to date on the matters that involve all of us.
I agree that something must be done to get the truth out. As you pointed this is happening over and over again, and it must stop!
The BATFE offical lied before a congressional hearing. I have to wonder where they are getting their information from? He needs to be fired, and issue an appoligy to congress, and the American people...that goes for Hillary, also.
What can we do to get the truth out, before the weasels in Washington pushes another bill through in the middle of the night. Something must be done and done soon. I have already contacted our Senators, any other suggestions.

BATFE has proven time and again that they are above the law........why would it be different now that they have the support of a sympathetic administration?

bambam is a Chicago politician, 'manuel is a Chicago politician, and if you check her provenance carefully, even hilly is a Chicago politician, and there is one easy way to tell when a Chicago politician is lying - they're alive, and even if they're dead they may still be lying.

I really hope that this type of awareness stays afloat for the next year or so...
If we allow the Chicago politics to settle in anymore than they have, and we do not start reclaiming the local races later this year, and carry that momentum into the next couple of election cycles...
You can bet your bottom case of hoarded ammo that their trigger will be pulled, if we do not succeed in pushing back the tide of social justice and social reform, we will have a tough fight on our hands...
Now is not the time to become politically complacent or just wait to go to the polls in November (May in some places around here) politicians and candidates will ride any wave of public opinion not based upon how high it is...But only if it is there...If it is not very high, they do not feel the pressure to perform if they do get into office...Especially on issues that we hold near and dear to our hearts...
I guess it is no secret that I am trying to keep folks fired up about this...This war is bigger than just guns and ammo I am sorry to say...This complacency is what has been eating away at our values since 2004...And these little issues we talk about are only symptomatic of the overall problem, government has gotten too big for its britches, and we need to not allow those britches to stretch out anymore...Those seams are at critical mass...(pardon the pun)
...off my rant soapbox, for now...

Outside of Fox news....I doubt you'll see much reported on this important "correction".
In fact, just a few days ago FOX itself... was reporting the same thing! At least they corrected the story.
I would like to see them (and other news agencies) give some more air time to this matter, since they certainly reported (in error) the 90% figure on
several occasions.

I belive the "correction" deserves an equal amount of coverage.
