State Fair Ban Fix and More...

HB 1715 was filed to address the issue of private contractors banning guns on public property, aka the State Fair Gun Ban of 2024.
Bill: https://www.tsra.com/docs/Texas_House_Bill_1715.pdf
TSRA has an article about it here: https://tsra.com/news_manager.php?page=38972

I wrote to my Rep this morning to indicate my support for fixing this and also asked him to consider trying to fix the issue of alcohol vendors making public property no-gun due to their 51% TABC listing. When I go to Bass Hall, I can't carry because the company that operates the alcohol concessions is designated 51% with a boundary that covers the entire venue. This is Bovine Excrement too, and impacts me even more frequently than the State Fair ban.

Please consider contacting your representatives and asking them to support this.

I hope this passes and it is an answer and fix especially for the State Fair.

Same. I prefer not to go to the State Fair as a sheep.

For me as a non lawyer, it shouldn't need fixing, as I thought it was clear (as mud). But lawyers are going to lawyer and every i must be dotted and every t crossed. So I hope it passes or something else very favorable.

But another situation that needs to be fixed is 51% signage. A venue or an entire building gets posted because a vendor, who's only business is alcohol sales has the 51% requirement. That should not be allowed. I'm even in favor of someone who is a designated driver or someone who doesn't drink alcohol be allowed to carry where an establishment is truly 51%. I remember several years ago going into a hotel restaurant to eat a meal only to see the hidden 51% sign as I exited. The hotel, nor the restaurant met the 51% requirement, but the vendor (bar inside the restaurant) did. That should not be off limits if you don't drink.

Write your representative.
If they don't hear it, they probably don't know it's a problem. :patriot:
