In a way I think they should have kept the lifetime permit and Stand your ground a separate bill from the permit less carry. I think he might have just let that pass on its own. Remember the West Virginia governor vetoed it twice as well and he's a democrat. In his veto letter he said he supports carry with a permit and the right to bear arms but said permit less carry dangerous for law enforcement. If Nixon vetoes this bill I see him using very similar wording. He will say he supports carrying with a permit and self defense but will cite the permit less carry for the reason the entire bill is vetoed. he will ignore talking about lifetime carry and stand your ground. In the 2014 veto of expanded open carry he ignored it in his letter and just focused on arming teachers for the reason of his veto.
And of course a lot of ccw instructors across the country are against conceal carry without a permit. That means less $$$$$ for them. Here in Florida I don't see it ever passing. State is turning more blue and it's such a money making machine for instructors down here as well. I think we all agree the ccw courses when it comes to live fire is not very hard to pass even for a novice so I don't see what the big deal about permit less carry is anyways.
Hey do you know much about this new organization called Missouri Firearms Coalition that pushed Permit less carry this year? Eric Burlison was active with them this year and some of the lawmakers post on their facebook page.
I think the fact it was all tacked together is going to be detrimental to the whole bill as well.
I am not familiar with the Missouri Firearms Coalition. Will have to see who they are.

Either way it will be overrode, just might have to wait a couple months months.
Do you think it will pass during veto override session in sept?
Probably. However, after Orlando and some other shootings, some of the legislators are getting calls about 'common sense' gun control measures like deeper background checks, mental health checks, etc. I think there will be a hard look at if they should allow unlicensed carry as it would allow some of those who had previously been denied a license to carry to legally pack concealed, and there is concern about that.

So you think it might not be overrode now? Probably demanding moms.

But if they would be denied a license to carry wouldn't that also preclude them from carrying without one? Are there circumstances that would prevent someone from getting a license that would still allow them to purchase/own a handgun? I'm not from there so I don't have all of the particulars.

Not really. Unless they had a suspended sentence. In Missouri even a suspended sentence once you complete it they still won't issue you a permit. However you could get a Arizona Florida permit and carry on that in Missouri just like you can in Texas.
The house and senate leadership commented today and sound like they want to override him.

I saw Todd Richardson already commented on the bill and supporting a override and thinks the votes in the house are there.
Will they try bringing the PTA back? I have one heck of a story about permit to acquire and was nearly ready to sue over it.
I don't believe they are looking to bring back PTA. And as expected, Todd believes they will have the support to override the veto. Will just be September before it can happen.

People like Jeanne Kirkton would love to bring PTA back. Here in Florida we have a stupid 3 day wait period on pistols if no ccw permit.

I should clarify, there are ALWAYS some who would love nothing better than to eliminate all guns if possible. However, I don't think anyone in the current legislature is going to try and introduce something they know would fail so fully and never even make the floor. As well, there are a lot of hardcore Democrats in rural Missouri who are avid gun people, so trying to do something as drastic as reinstating PTA would tick their constituents off royally.

Stacey Newman introduced that rabid anti gun bill last session to make it buying a gun harder than a abortion. It was funny. Newman keeps introducing that stupid CAP (Child Access Protection) law every single session, similar to what Texas and Florida has and it doesn't go anywhere and she gets all mad over it.
If Koster wins will there still be pushes for pro gun bills since he claims he supports expanding gun rights in MO?
