I believe that they had made their point by standing and that being members of a polite society took their seats again of their own free will, not at her command. I doubt that anything positive would have resulted from continuing to stand. The headlines would have read "Radical Gun Owners Disrupt Town Hall Meeting" instead of "Senator Faces Backlash From Anti-Gun Position".
