Re: POLL: Does the 2A give the right to own assault rifles?
I would like to see the question rephrased to something a little more realistic;
"Do You understand that the federal government has no right under constitution to regulate firearms and the ownership of them, or are you ignorant?"
A:I understand
B:I'm ignorant

What's the correct answer?

No. Our rights are bestowed upon us by our Creator. The second amendment along with the rest restrict government intervention on said rights.

Re: POLL: Does the 2A give the right to own assault rifles?
Semantically my answer would actually have to be NO.
Now before anyone jumps all over me for that, that is not the way I voted.
It is my belief that the Second Amendment does not give a right, it protects one, therefore the answer would be no.
And then we get into the rest of the semantics.
Of course if the Second did give the right, then incorporation under the Fourteenth would be a slam dunk through "Privileges and Immunities" and we wouldn't have to depend on "Due Process" which is less well defined.

I agree, Jim, that the Second Amendment does not give the right, but protects a right to keep and bare arms from infringement by federal government.
On the other hand, I think the pollster may not be working properly because the percentage has not changed since the 24th. I voted but it did not change anything.

I voted Yes... a Bushmaster just joined my Family.
I don't know why it took so long.

The 2A ain't about duck hunting...
Prof. R.J. Rummel's research shows that governments murdered 262 MILLION of THEIR OWN PEOPLE during the 20th century. That's 6 times more than were killed in war.

Assualt is an action, not a description.
While I do not see the need to own a "Milatary" style weapon I fear that the ban of one will lead the ban on all.
