Another Misguided Buyback Program
Sigh. It appears that there is another attempt at a misguided buyback program, this time in the form of tax credit.

I guess it is the old story of keep pounding away at it until people finally give in....

What a crock of {stuff}!
The collectors get their pick of the choicest items and a few publicly get trashed. I started to add, 'how stupid can some people be' but that has already been demonstrated - at least twice in recent years.

Re: Another Misguided Buyback Program
It's not even a gun buy back program! They offer a tax credit to turn in an "assault style rifle" to take off your tax return.
Do they even pay people to think up these stupid schemes? No, wait. They're all democrats.

Lets all get together and have a statewide gun buy back program. We would get some junk but might get some good stuff too

Participating in a gun buy back because you believe that the criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you believe that the neighbors have too many kids.

Re: Another Misguided Buyback Program
It doesn't matter how the compensation is paid or where it comes from, it still isn't a "buy back" program because the government can't "buy back" what it never owned in the first place. So these programs are not only misguided, but falsely named.joe817 wrote:It's not even a gun buy back program! They offer a tax credit to turn in an "assault style rifle" to take off your tax return.

So, they're not even serious. Apparently it's all a joke.....well past April fools. I'll believe they're serious when moronic liars like DeLauro take the very same weapons away from all law enforcement....local cops to Secret Service, since the only reason to have them is to kill as many people as possible in as short as time as possible, and clearly, the police have no reason to kill as many people as possible is as short of time as possible. Well, hmmmm....I guess would he could be saying is that is what he ultimately expects the police to be doing. So either he's a liar or contemplating mass murder of Americans. Which is it DeLauro, you a mass murder advocate or just a moronic liar?“Assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense,” DeLauro said. “There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.”

Re: Another Misguided Buyback Program
I could probably build a beater AR using parts that I have pulled off other rifles, semi auto BCGs from when I went to auto BCG, A2 grips and car stocks that I replaced with magpul stuff. I even have a torqued A4 upper from some goon with a cheater bar and a bent 14.5" barrel from a buddy who hammered in his own blind pin with the upper in a vice block and not barrel support... shoots about 10 inches high at 50 yards with the front post even with the ears. (no weld or silver solder either... I have it because I have SBR stamps) Toss all of that together and turn it in and get $2,000... go buy a nice AR with it, or get stamps a few more lowers.

Re: Another Misguided Buyback Program
I have a useless Mossberg 715-T .22 which I will gladly give up for a $2000 credit on my taxes. I just won't tell them about the usable AR sitting in the safe.

"Though DeLauro is in favor of stronger guns laws that would completely ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, she emphasized this bill would not force gun owners to turn in their firearms."
Huh? Lol......I guess the firearms expert DeLauro or the writer fat fingered that one?

Hmmmmm... I wonder how we can game this one... ??jayinsat wrote:and this one! If I turn in my $500 budget build and get the $2000 credit, I can build/buy a much better AR.Chilli Palmer David Plumber • 16 hours ago

Would be nice to buy a broken beater for $200 and turn it in for $2000...
I wonder if the proposal will be a tax credit or an income deduction? A $2000 "credit" would shield over $7,000 in income if you're in the 28% bracket, $8000 in income if you're in the 25% bracket and over $13,000 in income for a person in the 15% bracket. Woot!

I'm guessing that the tax credit is on State income tax not Federal.

Re: Another Misguided Buyback Program
I went and looked at the text from the article. The bill is a Federal bill with a $2000 credit against your federal taxes. What I find interesting is that if one were to take advantage of this (if it ever passed), they split the credit across two years. Also, they only allow for the turning in of one "assault weapon" to get the credit. You would think if they were really worried about the proliferation of "assault weapons", they would be willing to take as many as people were willing to turn over.
It also says no .22s, etc. They have a laundry list of firearms they are looking for, specified in the actual text of the bill.....
