His pay stopped 14 days after he was convicted, by law. He has been dishonorably discharged.

If he were to be executed, the terrorists would be able to hold him up as a martyr and quite possibly increase recruitment.

As long as he sits rotting in prison, they could still make him out to be a hero, but that won't help recruitment.

What i don't understand having been part of, initiated, testified as part of many Line of Duty investigations is.... why one was not done on this former SM, and if it was conducted, why was the outcome not made public.

Take a look at the last time a military prisoner with a death sentence was executed. Take a look at how many are on death row, how long they have been there and where they are in the appeals process. Sad fact is, my Army has a dysfunctional and dismally slow process in dealing with convicted prisoners on death row. Most will die of old age, disease or other non governmental induced death. This administration does not need to protect him, the UCMJ is doing that.

I don't know enough about this to have an opinion. Why do you think this is the way it is? Is it just the bureaucracy? I would think this is something they could be swift in handling.

Its the mandatory review and appeals process.. even if the accused DEMANDED to be put to death, signed every piece of paper the prosecution and government wanted,, the Military system mandates a review and appeal. There is no way around it.. and it takes much time, delays are common, and then delays to the delays, request for discover, more time, witnesses testimony, changes in appointed counsel, then more delay while the new counsel gets up to speed, and it starts all over again. After the mandatory appeal stages and a military death sentence requires final approval by the president, as commander in chief.
