My store has always had a gunbuster sign. So I have always felt welcome.

Hope this does not change.

It sounded to me like he intentionally slipped "open carry" verbiage into the press release to pacify the MDA morons and at the same time separate CHL activity from OC. I'd be surprised if they put up 30.06 signs. I don't shop at Target to begin with, but if they did I definitely would not.

Dear Target, not only did you make me a victim of credit card fraud due to your lack of action and security defense last year's data breech, now you want to make me and my family a target for psychos too? NO thank you! You will no longer get my $$. I WILL NOT risk our physical safety just to appease people too dumb to see that gun free zones are at a higher risk for bad guys, as they know they are least likely to be challenged.

Besides, my child and I were in your store 2 years ago when the electricity went out and we couldn't see our hands in front of our faces, in the pitch dark! You want me to be stranded with no protection, while you bungle around looking for flashlights To assist customers, AFTER you get electrical back up for the registers first, I don't think so! (That's my "Never Again" moment. I immediately put a flashlight app on my phone, a mini flashlight on my keychain, mace and eventually got my CHL!)
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

I saw someone on a Colion Noir post say something to the effect of, "...and Open Carry Texas kicks another ball into their own net."
Well said.

I wouldn't trust NBC as far as I can throw my car. Based upon the linked article, it appears that Target is asking people not to carry openly, but there's no mention of concealed-carry. Note that the comment about concealed carry in states is outside the quotation marks, so that appears to be NBC's attempt to mislead readers into believing that Target's request applies to CHL's as well.

There's no dispute that the actions taken recently by Target and other companies would not have occurred but for the in-your-face tactics implemented by certain open-carry supporters who care more about their notoriety (or infamy) than gun owners' rights. In spite of the clear and indisputable negative impact on both the general public and the Texas Legislature, they continue down this destructive path. Don't tell me you are supporting gun rights; you are harming the cause and you flat do not care.

Nothing changes in my behavior until they remove this sign:

Target's message was to shut down the crazies that are taking over their business for politics...it wasn't intended for me :tiphat:

Don't make a deal out of it. Quietly nod your head and carry on.
If it's political, give them the tools to appease the other side while not really changing anything for CHL.

"Big Win for Gun Control Groups"
On the other side of the fight was, most notably, Open Carry Texas, a group which has gained notoriety for its armed demonstrations where members call attention to Texas' ban on the open carry of handguns by (legally) carrying rifles in public. As recently as a few weeks ago, Open Carry Texas was lauding Target for not coming out against guns in its stores.

"Thank you, Target, for not taking a position and allowing state law to dictate policy," the group said in a Facebook post last month. "We in Open Carry Texas will continue to refrain from taking long arms into your businesses, but will continue spending our money there."

Since they sell wine and other alcoholic beverages, they are required by law to post that sign. As a CHL holder, it has no impact on you whatsoever as you are indeed licensed to carry.

Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman, said the retailer will not post signs at its stores asking people not to bring guns inside. “It is not a ban,” she said. “There is no prohibition.”

I understand that OCT has ceased the long gun walk-in exhibitions on private business premises. So we are now enduring the run-off damage from their earlier ill-conceived escapades.

I know that references to "common sense" usually just get a guffaw - a wink - or a giggle....but ...sometimes ..it simply boils down to using a little bit of good old fashioned common sense......especially concerning this open carry issue.

But does OCT accept any of the responsibility for this upset?

As far as I'm concerned, until these businesses post 30.06 I will continue to carry and shop there. As soon as any signs go up though, I will have to take a risk of ending up on people of walmart. My gun is far less dangerous on my body than locked in my car.

And as much as we want to get mad at target and Chipotle and all the others, we really have Shannon watts and her kind with the help of OCT to blame.
