Wait, that can't be true, because the antis keep saying nobody wants to take our guns.....they're just for "reasonable" laws, like background checks and registration. Over and over I've heard that Obama doesn't want to take our guns. Someone must be trying to smear the guy.

I have an anti-gun acquaintance who likes to breathlessly say that "nobody is trying to take your guns!". In the next breath he'll talk about getting rid of semi-auto rifles, etc. I called him out on it yesterday when I said that the President himself held up the Australian gun control approach as the model for our country. The silence was deafening.

The Aussies don't understand our culture, I'm not surprised. Even back to the ratification of the Constitution it was acknowledged that the right for private citizens to keep and bear arms was almost completely unparalleled across the world. I can point out until I'm blue in the face how what "works" in the UK and Australia does not and could not work here for any number of factors. I feel like I'm shoveling sand into the ocean anymore.

Fortunately, I either don't have any anti-gun acquaintances, or they don't have the courage to express themselves. Where I work I've put up photos of guns on my office walls and even had one of the women who works with me ask for a copy. Our immediate boss even stopped to talk when she saw a colleague and I examining his jammed rifle in the parking lot. Many of my coworkers have CHL's and I don't know of one who doesn't at least own a gun. And I live out in the country where all my neighbors have guns and I regularly hear them shooting. I don't watch TV so the only anti-gunners I run into are on the internet.

I'm actually suprised that BO made public comments concerning his desire to disarm the american citizens. I figured he would just quietly let operation chokepoint do it's thing.

I have several and am not afraid to publicly state that they will not be taken from me by peaceful means nor will they be registered.

I don't let them get away with deafening silence any more. I call my friends on it, right then and there, and I force them to tell me that EITHER they were wrong and they misunderstood the liberal position, OR to admit that YES, they want to take my guns, and at last they feel free to be honest about it.

I find that it is a dandy friend-filter. You find out rapidly then whom you can trust, and whom you cannot. The ones I cannot trust are no longer my friends, and they become relegated to "acquaintances".
