Paxton or Branch for AG?

Paxton or Branch for AG?

#1

Post by RoyGBiv »

Working on my runoff ballot, hoping to early vote this week.

For Attorney General...
Ken Paxton
Dan Branch

Specifically on 2A, it seems Paxton is the better choice, but if you have any additional facts, I haven't cast my vote yet.

As Attorney General, I will fight to protect our Second Amendment rights at every turn.

I have a solid voting record in support of our 2nd Amendment rights, and since my first session have earned a consistent “A” rating from the NRA and TSRA. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prevents the government from infringing upon our right to personally keep and bear arms.

I signed an amicus brief on the McDonald v. Chicago case to the U.S. Supreme Court in defense of our right to keep and bear arms and to prevent local ordinances from infringing on that right. The McDonald case extends the constitutional protection to states and local governments to ensure that no government entity may set local policies that infringe upon our right to personally keep and bear arms.

This year #txlege passed and I supported several pro-gun bills! Stay tuned as we tweet 5 #ProGunLaws every Texas citizen should know about.

Help us honor the Second Amendment!

<nothing regarding 2A on that web site (that I can find).
I'm trying not tot read anything in to that, but it's difficult to avoid.

From what I've read, it seems that Branch is closely affiliated with Joe Straus, which, if correct, would make it an easy decision to vote for Paxton.

Creighton and Branch have both been key lieutenants on House Speaker Joe Straus' leadership team. Creighton has wielded added clout as the chairman of the House GOP Caucus since early last year. Branch has been one of the lower chamber's most powerful members as the Higher Education Committee chairman and a close personal friend of the GOP speaker who appointed him to the post.

NRA rates Paxton and A and Branch an A-
Senator Ken Paxton and Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman both received an A rating. State Representative Dan Branch came in third place with an A- rating.
Texas NRA and TSRA endorse Paxton:

Branch is wishy-washy at best on Campus Carry. I'm reading that as "Opposed".

So.... After voting for Barry Smitherman in the primary, I'm leaning Paxton in the runoff....
Thoughts? :bigear:

(Please keep comments focused on 2A, to comply with runes of this sub-forum)

I have a similar question regarding Patrick and Dewhurst. There is something about Patrick that gives me pause but I haven't been able to put my finger on it.
