I voted for Patterson. I was disappointed that he didn't win, but now I'm glad he didn't.

I wonder if Patterson's "leak" might open him up to some sort of HIPPA violation.....

Once the information becomes part of a court record and barring it being "sealed" by court order, the information becomes public record...IIRC.

Was he Patrick's doctor?

IANAL but my understanding is it could be a HIPAA violation if Celebrity X's doctor leaks that she's pregnant but there's no HIPAA protection if a paparazzo photographs Celebrity X buying prenatal vitamins or overhears her telling somebody she's pregnant.

I wonder what Patrick did to earn that kind of ire from Patterson?

Not very classy... I expected more from Patterson.

Just curious. How did Patrick's medical records get entered into a court proceeding?

Same here.

Now I'm disappointed that he has showed he is in fact a total jerk.

I don't know what to think of this feud at the moment, but in the article linked by Mr. Cotton this caught my eye:

The court documents, depositions and exhibits that were part of a 1987 slander suit that Patrick filed against the now-defunct Houston Post, show that Patrick was at the time taking the anti-depressant Impramine and spent several weeks in the Spring Shadows Glen center in Houston. Documents also document at least one reported suicide attempt.

You can hardly have such info in a court proceeding you initiated and expect it to be kept secret or confidential. Being it was 30 years ago, I don't think it should make a difference now as long as Patrick's assertion that is has not recurred since then. However, it is a rookie political mistake to think you can just sit on this kind of info and run for a higher office without it blowing up in your face at the last moment. Which he is now finding out.

Note that well in advance of 2016 the Clintons have arranged to have Monica, Whitewater, and other such things hashed over in the press NOW, when most of the dolts in this country are not paying attention, so when the campaigning starts in earnest the Clintons and their press allies can say it's old news yet again. The Clintons are slimy and corrupt, but they are also usually very politically astute (Hillary's rage gets the better of her once in a while, but not often enough). One of the problems many of the Tea Party candidates have had is not having a sophisticated enough grasp of how politics is played at the national level, and elections for higher state offices in big states like Texas are really national events as well.

I saw a new interview with Patterson where he spewed out the whole suicide thing like it happened yesterday and then he blurted out that Patrick has a CHL. Thanks! Nothing like putting it into the public mind that an isolated depresson many years ago means someone will do some violent thing today with a gun. I voted for Patterson. I didn't like the way Patrick came across in the debate I saw. But now, I have seen better behavior from him than Dewhurst and Patterson. Frankly, I don't believe the long ago depressive incident, name change, or the money stuff they are carrying on about is nearly as bad as their behavior now.

It's all pretty ugly right now... hard to know what to believe...

At the moment, the decision maker for me is this...

In my gut, I don't like Patrick. I don't trust that Dan Patrick is running for me and not himself.
I have almost nothing to back that up factually, it really comes down to reading between the lines and reading into the way he's presented himself.

As much as I don't have any joy for Dewhurst, I'm hopeful that Pattersons support of him has some merit and I fall back on the fact that he's announced this will be his last term. Maybe we'll see 2 better choices in 4 years instead of one better choice running against Patrick as an incumbent.

I haven't voted yet, so, ...feel free to tell me where I'm wrong. :bigear:

I voted, but couldn't make myself vote for Lt. Gov. I'll support either in the election, but right now I didn't like either enough to cast a ballot.

The Neal's did early voting today.

This week, I listened to both Dan Patrick and David Dewhurst on AM950 in Houston.
Patrick's message was about things he wanted to achieve for Texas.
Dewhurst's message was that neither he nor his campaign said untrue/bad things about Dan Patrick.

I appreciate what David Dewhurst has done for our side while he has been Lt. Governor but looking forward, I believe Dan Patrick will be better for Texans.

I voted for Dan Patrick.
