Hearne, Texas. Police responded to a 911 call of a woman with a gun.

Not a lot of details.

Event certainly has a lot of hot button issues.

I think we all need to remember that when someone calls the police to report a loved one has a weapon, that rather than helping their loved one, they may indirectly cause their death. To me it's better, to just get everyone to leave the house and let the loved one with the weapon calm down on there own.

I understand a domestic disturbance call is one of the most dangerous for police.

Per report filed by KBTX about an hour ago she was waving a gun. Looks like the area taped off is on her property, but there's no information as to where she was when shot. Witness heard five shots and the report stated she was shot five times. Second fatal shooting (Cleared by Grand Jury of any wrong doing on the first) by the officer in less than two years with Hearne PD and has been on three different PD's in the last 5-6 years, including Hearne. Very sad way for this elderly lady to leave this world.

I don't know what happened. Unless she was a threat to others it probably would have been better to have just left her in the house alone for a while. She is 93....she will go to sleep soon enough and then you can get the gun easier. If she was not a threat to others the worse she could do was to kill herself....which already happened.

It is sad and terrible. We need to wise up as citizens and realize when we should call for police (who may or may not use restraint) and when we need to be responsible people and use restraint ourselves. If there is a burgler in the house...call the police. If your son or daughter or elderly mother is having a psychotic episode....maybe not.

Bloody tragedy all the way around. Five shots and hits might be somewhat excessive unless the woman was actually engaging the officer in a gun fight. Loss of driving privileges can be a very traumatic experience for elderly people who live alone.

are they saying she got upset at the loss of driving and went crazy? I hadn't read that

she was 93, could someone really not have gotten behind her and at least tried to taze her? I know I despise the tazer esp for older people, but if it's between shooting her and tazing her, well.......

and I'm assuming this cop will be looked at by an outside agency???? 2 people dead in 3 years, 5 shots fired at a 93 year old woman, just seems a bit excessive, should he really be a cop?

I am not saying this is what happened, but this type of incident can happen when people with Alzheimer's disease have a gun.

Texas Rangers are investigating. Officer Stem has shot two people dead in less than two years. Joined Hearne PD in July 2012. We should not jump to conclusions. Facing someone holding a gun is an unsettling experience.

What I take away from this: Texas cops are better shots than NY cops.

He hit her with all five. A NY cop would be lucky to hit her once. Now the neighbors, they would be in the most danger from a NY cop.
