Ukraine and gun ownership
http://news.yahoo.com/ukrainians-had-mo ... itics.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As horrific photos show up of the superior government firepower being used to repress, wound and kill a free people. Parallels are being drawn between the Ukraine and the United States.
Guns are pretty much illegal for a private citizen to possess in the Ukraine. The government security police apparently have a very large stockpile of small arms.
This post sort of makes my other posts about pellet guns, Wii controllers, etc. seem unimportant.

Well some brave souls need to “liberate” those stockpiles. The government security police apparently have a very large stockpile of small arms.

God Bless America, and please hurry.

Re: Ukraine and gun ownership
I was watching some of the footage tonight on the news as well. It was amazing to see people who are normal everyday citizens risk everything and fight for freedom with such determination. Even in the face of withering fire from police, they fight on throwing home made firebombs, rocks, whatever they can come up with. Against rifles. All for the sake of freedom. We must never ever give up our right to own arms. I heard the report that Obama was urging the government not to fire on its own citizens and I thought that interesting since I believe he would fire on American citizens in a heartbeat if they rose up and sought to force him to relinquish his throne.

Am not so sure about that - there are already gun rights organizations in the Ukraine, even operating in the open, like this one http://zbroya.info/ru/.philip964 wrote: Guns are pretty much illegal for a private citizen to possess in the Ukraine. They issued a call to arms on Thursday the 20th http://zbroya.info/ru/blog/2655_obrashc ... -oruzhiia/

Weapon owners,
We know that you are the most moderate and responsible part of the Ukrainian society, which so far did not participate in the standoff.
Unfortunately, however the conflict transitioned to the armed stage.
The control over the situation is effectively lost.
Now each one of us bears personal responsibility for his own safety and the safety of his family, and in this difficult time, also for the safety of his fellow countrymen.
Weaponry in the hands of responsible citizens has been in all times the best peacemaker.
We call you to act, governed by your own convictions and all-mankind moral values and, in case of necessity, give a resolute resistance to the criminal elements. In all the rest we rely on your reason and responsibility.

According to my friend of Ukrainian extraction, they are no more free now than they have ever been.philip964 wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/ukrainians-had-mo ... itics.html

If you can read that without a shiver running down your spine, please take a deep breath, slow down and read it again slowly.Bolton Strid wrote:Am not so sure about that - there are already gun rights organizations in the Ukraine, even operating in the open, like this one http://zbroya.info/ru/.philip964 wrote: Guns are pretty much illegal for a private citizen to possess in the Ukraine. More http://zbroya.info/en/blog/2650_ukraini ... statement/
"As of today Ukrainian Gun Owners Association will start to work on the preparation of amendments to the Constitution, which will provide an unconditional right for Ukrainian citizens to bear arms."
In the comments section under the announcement they were enthusiastically talking about using our Constitution as the guide to make a new one with.
Now that brought a tear to my eye - our Constitution is still the standard that others look to.

Re: Ukraine and gun ownership
I would suggest to them that they write anything about firearms very clear and concise, so that no one could misinterpret it, as many people here in the U.S. do today. Don't mention militia, just say the people. And I love the phrase "shall not be infringed" and think that it means "unrestricted", although some people in our government seem to think otherwise.Bolton Strid wrote:More http://zbroya.info/en/blog/2650_ukraini ... statement/

Re: Ukraine and gun ownership
Saw on the news the other night that a number of Ukrainian Police "laid down their guns" and joined the Rebels. Seems like it would have been a better idea to join the rebels taking their guns with them. Even in the War of Northern Aggression, Soldiers who remained loyal to the Union were allowed to depart from Texas for the north with their weapons.

Re: Ukraine and gun ownership
Ukraine has been ruled by outsiders for most of its modern history since the Mongol invasions. Lithuania, Poland, Ottomans, Russians all wanted control of the breadbasket of Europe.jimlongley wrote:According to my friend of Ukrainian extraction, they are no more free now than they have ever been.
