As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Credit card firm cuts off gun store - for selling guns!

http://washingtonexaminer.com/visa-subs ... le/2536417
A subsidiary of Visa, a key Obama campaign donor, that specializes in credit card transactions has abruptly stopped servicing the nation’s largest gun store after four years because the store sells guns, a fact the owners never hid.

Hyatt Gun Shop of Charlotte, N.C., told Secrets that the subsidiary, Authorize.net/CyberSource, simply sent an email to owner Larry Hyatt to announce that it was suddenly breaking off the business relationship. The reason: “The sale of firearms or any similar product.”
Ridiculous.

As if they didn't know what they sold when they originally started!!! These merchant companies are mostly scammers! Cash is the way to go anymore.

They're a private sector business so it's not even half as ridiculous as Texas banning CHL carry in public college classrooms.

Don't have the link or name handy, but there is a credit card processing company that explicitly markets itself as serving the firearms industry as a counter-reaction to large banks cutting these kinds of businesses off. When one allows the free market to operate, there are always choices.

I haven't had a credit card in over five years. Best move I've ever made. It is cash or debit card only. My bank debit card can be used as a credit card when that is the only thing accepted like for hotel reservations or car rentals. Credit cards got me into financial trouble more than once in my life...never again.

Have you found a secure way to send cash over the internet?

One reason not recommend Authorize.net as a payment gateway for my website design customers.....

I have a debit MasterCard I may use if needed, but I prefer to shop local and support local as much as possible. Also cash does not leave a paper trail and many businesses offer a cash discount. And there is always western union and the like. It might be more work or less convenient, but we do not have to put up with them. We still have this freedom of choice. :txflag:

Actually Western Union has been the front end of choice for "scammers" much more than the merchants have. The CC companies offer consumer protections. Western Union has been a conduit for millions, if not billions of dollars in money related to fraud, theft, and other illegal activities over the internet.

You can't "send cash" over the internet. If you're looking for a secure way to make payment, there are lots of ways. If you're looking for anonymous ways to make payments, you can do that too... But all the means that I know about involve some form of Visa/MC.

Security: Get a CC that allows generation of a one-use credit card number. Generate that number online, use it once, it can't be used again.
Anonymity: Buy a pre-paid Visa/MC with cash. Note, you're never really anonymous on the internet.

I am a merchant, I meant they are scammers to merchants, not general public. Finding an honest cc merchant account provider is very challenging.
