Tax on guns and ammo

New talk is some states to tax guns and ammo, even congress adding 10% sales tax. Linda Sanchez Congressmen from California says this will help because guns are used in homicides. I listened to what she said several times...does she really believe this will have an impact on homicide? I wonder if these idiots ever have a "what was I thinking?" Moments?

The real question I have is will the black market street dealer selling the stolen gun with the serial number filed off be required to collect the sales tax up front or will it be up to the buyer to file it similar to a use tax? Will the tax be required to be paid if the buyer fails the universal background check? Criminals will be sure to follow these laws, right?

This is one of the main problems with all of the restrictive laws; it does not address the real issue which is what happens when criminals get their hands on guns. Paula Dean is being treated worse than a lot of bad guys who commit crimes with guns. If the courts don't get tough on THOSE people then there will be no reduction in gun crime no matter HOW many laws are passed.

But that is making the assumption that Legislators are interested in preventing crime; they aren't. They are interested in controlling people and the only way that they can have complete control is if there is no way for people to fight back.

this tax proposal is punitive IMHO. they know that the tax revenues won't help reduce crime. it would be neat to count up the number of bullets that are illegally fired (not purchased) in a year, and then count the tax revenue that would be generated from only those "illegal" bullets. lets say that 5000 shots are illegally fired in los angeles in a year, which is probably way way way too large of a number (even if you include illegal shooting on new years and the 4th, which having lived there for 6 years, always occurs). let's say its a 20 cent tax on each bullet. 1000 bucks! that's a few lakers tickets! conclusion: the libs just don't like our guns or ammo and want to make it hard for us to buy them. and they probably also just want to spite us and make their base happy.

The judicial and penal systems have pretty much failed in reducing crime. More good people carrying guns will be more effective in reducing crime..

I hope you all realize there is already a 15% federal excise tax on all firearms and ammunition that we have been paying for decades. The funds raised have been the largest single source of funding for wildlife and conservation.

Yes I would bet everyone here realizes, like almost everything, there is a tax on guns. If your are ok with them INCREASING that tax 10% please do us a favor and don't vote! I'd rather not pay $1250 for a $1000 gun!

Not sure if you were getting that from my post, but I am not OK with increasing any kind of taxes on anything at all!

We are all way overtaxed. I'd like to cut all taxes by at least 50% and then cut the government size accordingly to run a surplus!
