More on government mandated physician questions.

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Last visit to the Dr he said..
"Government says I have to ask you about guns in the house, but since this is Texas, I assume you already have guns. if you don't and you want me to write you a prescription for some, please let me know."

To which I said...

"Will my prescription plan cover that?"

And he said...

"Seems unlikely, but you're welcome to try"..

Remember back in the good ole days when this kind of discussion would have been about Soviet Russia and we would have been laughing at them? What in God's name has become of the United States and how do we get it back from the lazy Socialist Progressive pieces of... :mad5 :banghead: :mad5

Our kids' pediatrician said almost the exact same thing, except for the prescription part. He just said, "I think this is stupid, and we're in Texas, so I'll assume you have guns, and it's none of my business anyway. I'll just ask you to make sure they're secure so the kids can't get them."

I could use Dr.'s prescription for a three month supply of 9 mm.

My kids doctors haven't mentioned anything about firearms in the house to me. The only thing I have seen was a handout given with the yearly checkup that discussed general health at a particular age, what to expect in the next year, etc. The handout had a little blurb about being careful with firearms and said something like the home is most safe without firearms....the docs never mentioned it specifically though. No intrusive questions asked.

Recently went thru cataract surgery for my wife. Every time they pull up her record they ask if she smokes. Eventually the tech confessed that it is a part of obamacare, and it pops up every time, and they have to answer it to move on. (Nothing about guns, though.)

I asked what was done with the info, if it was sent in or something, and nobody could give me a firm answer, but they didn't seem to think anything was done with it.

I think in the future, when asked questions like that, I will ask if the answer has a medical impact. (Smoking could presumably affect treatment.) and if the answer is no, state that there is then no point in my answering.

The most on-time doctor I've ever done business with too... LINK
I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes in his waiting room.

I sat my kids down for a chat when this all came to light originally. They go through various medical related things in school. Eye tests, hearing, spine exams, health classes, etc. We had a good discussion about privacy (we talk about privacy and the use of social media all the time, so the concept was nothing new, except to add the extra dimension of medical privacy and "inappropriate" questions coming from school)... I told them very clearly.... "If anyone asks you about guns in your house this is what I want you to say, politely, but exactly this..... "My parents told me to tell you that it's none of your business""... And that if they ask you a second time, ask them for a phone and call me immediately.

So far, no problem. It IS Texas, after all. :thumbs2: :txflag:
