We need to check your guns??

I don't know about the author or authenticity of this post, but it's interesting anyway. Apparently, in Carney's Point NJ, officers showed up at this guy's house after someone reported a picture of his child with a gun. Scary the tactics that may be employed.

Sounds like the guy in the story did everything right...

Rule of thumb...

When you live in an area of the country that somewhat demonstrates their distaste for private firearm possession or ownership, I would say that you can certainly be proud of your kid if they demostrate their understanding and handling skills with any type of firearm (in this case)...But I would take this as a lesson to NOT post pictures of that situation on any social media source...

Not an uncommon story. CPS will come investigate any complaint made about a possible child endangerment situation. My guess is one of the boy's friends have anti-gun parents and they saw the photo and reported the family to CPS.

This happened to my Brother-In-Law. He had a neighbor who bought a house 3 doors down from him. The property had originally belonged to my Father-In-Law and he subdivided a portion off and sold a few one acre lots with road frontage. Anyway, this guy bought the house from the previous owner. The property behind the house still belonged to my Father-In-Law and my brother-in-law's boys all rode motorcycles back there on the remaining 10 acres. The new neighbor didn't like this and called CPS because the kids were 'in danger of getting hurt' riding the motorcycles. CPS came out, and luckily the lady that showed up went out there, looked at what the kids were doing and said 'Man, I wish I had a place like this to ride when I was a kid; that would have been great!' She told them she would handle the endangerment issue. After that the neighbor tried all kinds of things to get my brother-in-law's family in trouble. The sheriff's department finally just quit showing up to take reports if it was something related to my brother-in-law and threatened to arrest the guy if he made any further false reports. Finally after a couple of years the guy moved. :hurry:

i think a good portion of gun owners in texas with kids would be in jail for posting pics of their kids with guns.

Having worked child abuse many years, I can say that somebody probably saw the photo and called in a complaint about a child having access to a gun. This actually happens a lot. CPS will then go out with or without the police to make sure the child doesn't have access. Many in CPS are anti gun and can try to make a big issue. HOWEVER it is not against the law to own guns 9unless u meet certain conditions) and not against the law to allow a child to safely hold or shoot one. I have had to remind them of that. The gun owner/parent DOES have rights, to include the 4th amendment. They DO NOT have to let cps in to see the guns w/o a court order.

Funny that posting a pic of a child with a car doesn't lead to a visit to ensure the child doesn't have access to the keys.

Or just put them behind the wheel...Snap a picture...Those are pretty cute sometimes...

Hey, BTW, who's kid (13-14 year old) was learing to fly (gliders) here in the forum???

Can you imagine if someone were to drop a dime and report (to the DHS) that this might be training a kid to do some dastardly act??? (not that I believe that for one second, but someone could that doesn't know the real situation)...

That's why I stand by not posting things like this in social media, for whatever reason...Someone can very well make your life miserable for something as innocent as this...

Just shooting from the hip here...

:smilelol5:

I posted the glider pics with my 13 yr old and a pic of my 11 yr old in the cockpit of a biplane. Working with disadvantaged kids on a daily basis, I'm pretty confident DPS has their hands full with real issues.

Maybe I should post some pics of the boys on the runways hooking up gliders and running along side the glider holding up the wing until the glider takes off and then jumping in the golf cart to make a mad dash off the runway before the next plane lands. Nah, that's not dangerous, that's just fun.

BTW, tons of hunting pics of my boys on FB. No issues.
Even better, 5th grade science project - used 3 different rounds of ammo with multiple layers of plywood to determine which round would have the most penetration. Both handguns and rifles were used along with pics of son shooting to prove he actually performed all aspects of the project. Lots of jealous kids at the science fair. Wish we would have had something better than plywood but I was afraid using a pig would have gotten us in trouble with PETA. :biggrinjester:

I have no problem with your kid driving; they need to learn at an early age. However, I am reporting you for not wearing a seatbelt and not removing your sun screen from the windsheild before you hit the raod.
