I am against any laws infringing on my rights in any way what so ever. However, I think you may be reading it wrong, what you described would be exempt.
`(t)(1) Beginning on the date that is 180 days after the date of enactment of this subsection, it shall be unlawful for any person who is not licensed under this chapter to transfer a firearm to any other person who is not licensed under this chapter, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the firearm for the purpose of complying with subsection (s). Upon taking possession of the firearm, the licensee shall comply with all requirements of this chapter as if the licensee were transferring the firearm from the licensee's inventory to the unlicensed transferee.
`(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to--
`(A) bona fide gifts between spouses, between parents and their children, between siblings, or between grandparents and their grandchildren;

`(B) a transfer made from a decedent's estate, pursuant to a legal will or the operation of law;

`(C) a temporary transfer of possession that occurs between an unlicensed transferor and an unlicensed transferee, if --`

(i) the temporary transfer of possession occurs in the home or curtilage of the unlicensed transferor;

`(ii) the firearm is not removed from that home or curtilage during the temporary transfer; and

`(iii) the transfer has a duration of less than 7 days; and

`(D) a temporary transfer of possession without transfer of title made in connection with lawful hunting or sporting purposes if the transfer occurs--

`(i) at a shooting range located in or on premises owned or occupied by a duly incorporated organization organized for conservation purposes or to foster proficiency in firearms and the firearm is, at all times, kept within the premises of the shooting range;

`(ii) at a target firearm shooting competition under the auspices of or approved by a State agency or nonprofit organization and the firearm is, at all times, kept within the premises of the shooting competition; and

`(iii) while hunting or trapping, if--

`(I) the activity is legal in all places where the unlicensed transferee possesses the firearm;

`(II) the temporary transfer of possession occurs during the designated hunting season; and

`(III) the unlicensed transferee holds any required license or permit
.

That said if this were to actually pass, the ones who vote for it may well seal their fate. :fire

Umm, debating the contents of this trash is a waste of time. The author needs to go away. Any supporters need to go away. The whole concept of these infringements needs to go away. This constant barrage is maddening, infuriating.

You missed something (highlighted and enlarged.)

So, for example, my wife and I take 10 day trips to NC to visit family. Our daughter lives in our house. So, by merely being in the house while my guns are present and I am absent make both her and me federal felons with 5 year sentences.

If you think I'm going to put up with that for one minute, you're sadly mistaken. I will die before I will give up my freedom like that. And I won't die sitting in my easy chair. This is WELL PAST my line in the sand.

Transfers between parent and child are not prohibited by this bill.
If you left your guns with your neighbor for safekeeping, that would be a violation.

EDIT: So.. I'm gonna walk that statement back...
You WOULD be in violation of this bill if the transfer was not a "Bona fide gift".

It's junk law... and this country is being held together by one Supreme Court Justice.

So when it's a family vacation for over 7 days, a house-sitter is out of the question :nono:

Better run that by schumer and ATF. I am certain they will steer you in the right direction.

But I also find it not-useful to intentionally misrepresent its' contents to create misplaced anger.
It makes us (those who would oppose the bill) seem like the idiots the Left tries to portray us as.

Here's the teeth of it...
http://www.judiciary.senate.gov/legisla ... B13180.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Under this bill...
1. Temporary possession ("loaning") is allowed at shooting ranges
2. Temporary possession ("loaning") is allowed for hunting
3. Transfer between close relatives is allowed
shall not apply to
(A) bona fide gifts between spouses, between
parents and their children, between siblings, or be-
tween grandparents and their grandchildren;
And let's not forget... Without "Registration", none of this is possible. And registration is illegal.
Of those items in the OP, it seems to me, only this statement says anything misleading: If you lend a gun to someone for to try out at the range, provide a loaner for a student in training, let your son shoot a rifle you purchased while hunting, or provide a gun to a woman for self-defense, you’ve committed a felony. 5 years in prison for each of you.

And not all of it...only the parts highlighted in red. As worded, I couldn't have a friend come over and use one of my guns to target shoot or plink on my own property.

I agree with you whole heartedly. :tiphat: You left off the part of my post that was directed at Tommyg's coment about renting a gun at a gun range to test with. I did not miss that part, that perticular article was not germane to my post.

I have to wonder if these people are simply crazed.

This is ridiculous that they even wrote this stuff down and spent time pondering it at taxpayer expense. It is terrifying that our government has come to this point. Obama will do every possible thing to get the midterms to throw him both houses. His goal is clear--to get crap like this passed into law and to put justices on the Supreme Court to cement for all time his place in history as the man who disarmed America. The man who engineered our Republic into a Socialist government for some megalomaniac dream of the utopia China and the USSR have failed to create.

It mentions; "duly incorporated". So if you are a sole proprietorship you would not be legal to rent a firearm on your own property to a student to shoot on that property? Seems they are saying only incorporated businesses are recognized as legitimate.

You could not allow a friend to shoot your gun at targets on your own private property?

We often have a friend who is a CHL staying at our house. Under this, we could not be gone for more than 7 days?

Words fail to describe what this "fly paper" toilet paper bunch of commie treasonous insulting crap is!! :mad5

The audacity of Mr. Shumer in proposing such legislation, is matched only by the blatant disregard for the Constitution exhibited by the 10 members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that actually voted to pass it on to the full Senate. They are:
Patrick Leahy, VT
Charles Shumer, NY
Diane Feinstein, CA
Richard Durbin, IL
Sheldon Whitehouse, RI
Amy Klobuchar, MN
Al Franken, MN
Christopher Coons, DE
Richard Blumenthal, CT
Mazie Hirono, HI
Betrayers of their oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution of these United States.
