I, Greg Hamilton, do solemnly swear (or affirm), that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of Sheriff of Travis County, of the State of Texas, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God.
Well, in that list it says both the Constitution AND the laws. These can be in disagreement. It ends with an Oath to God. Considering our Constitution recognizes the freedoms we are guaranteed are from God--not the government, I'd say God and the Constitution trumps any law in disagreement. Clearly he is reading it as the laws take precedence over both God and the Constitution. Clearly a failure to obey the larger weight of his oath whether he likes it or not. :rules:

We are not required to obey unconstitutional/illegal/unjust laws.

Determining the appropriate time to not obey is the key.
