Yesterday I filed HB 706 with several of my freshmen colleagues which would allow concealed handgun license holders to carry their handgun on college campuses.

The voters in my District and around Texas strongly support a citizen's right to defend themselves. We have a strong certification process here in Texas and concealed handgun licensees have gone through a thorough background check. The environment for expanding responsible handgun protection has improved statewide. I know there is a significant amount of support in the House, from both new and senior members. If the bill makes it to the House floor, I feel confident it passes. It's not going to be easy, but for the sake of our students, it needs to happen.

This needs to pass. I work on a public college campus. There are several people where I work who want to be able to carry while at work, myself included.
