From the article:

"Harrold ISD near Electra has allowed certain staff members to carry weapons at school, school events, and at school board meetings since August 2008."

That was a very good interview on the KFYO site. Really gets you thinking about the response times for LEO to one of these vs the length of the engagements. 9 minutes was the time he quoted for the Virginia Tech event to take place with most taking only 3-4 minutes. How long would it take for LEO to respond even when there is a Police Station right across the street? 911 Call -> Dispatch -> realization that this is going on right next door -> Boots on ground after grabbing equipment and running across the street? I can't say that I disagree with the Harold policy at all.

Harrold ISD teacher "Guardian Program" Requirements

1. TX CHL
+ 2. District Board (ISD) Approval
+ 3. Additional Training (not defined)
+ 4. Frangible ammunition
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
= Complete Sanity.
I would add A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training for students and faculty.
It's the "C" part that's lacking from current plans/training.
Simply speaking.
It appears that the shooters in these circumstances are seeking control.
They have lost control of their lives in any social setting and have found an alternative to act out.
In these shootings once this control is removed they end their lives as their last act of control.
This seems to be the case in the Clackamas shooting if the CHL incident is correct.
The shooter percieved loss of control when the gun was aimed at him and proceeded to a stairwell and shot himself.
It is also apparent in the Conn school case as the shooter ended his life as his last act of control when he heard the response team entering the building.
The teacher and the principal who attacked the shooter could have removed his percieved control or ended the fight if they had been armed.
They certainly showed they were willing to protect their childeren.
TxD . you hit the nail right on its proverbial head. It is all about CONTROL.
All of these maniacal mass murderers plan on committing suicide at the point that THEIR CONTROL of the given environment is lost.
If these murderers could gain CONTROL a device with a red button that when depressed would blow up the plantet earth - they would press it.
All we can do is take measures to prevent their access to such lesser devices that facilitate their CONTROL of targeted environments, and immediately intercept abd stop them whenever they attempt toexpress their maniacal urges.
