Why should someone who is pro firearms vote for an anti gun candidate?

I know there are other issues, but you mentioned pro firearms people. Should they vote against their own best interests?

I'd hope, if nothing else that anyone who is pro gun would vote against romney in a primary.

Romney and Obama do have their similarities, but on the whole I would much rather have Romney than Obama. I think all of the top republican candidates have one or more similarities with Obama, but I would vote for any of them over him.

The Rom will be the worse thing to happen to this country since Obama, on healthcare and other items. He's a closet liberal pure and simple.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... (Jefferson quoting Beccaria)

... tyrants accomplish their purposes ...by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep arms. - Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, 1840

Okay, but is he worse than Obama? If there is just one thing that he is more conservative on than Obama then he's worth voting for, right?

Remember too, that he has to be sent bills to sign before he can do a lot of the damage many are worried about.

Other than the Supreme Court Justice thing that is, but even they have to go through confirmation.

:iagree:

If the Republicans want to win, they need a candidate who is clearly different than Obama.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Since Romney is Pro-stimulus, pro-Socialist Romneycare, Pro- abortion, anti-gun and pro- everything Obama does (they like to praise each other) .... it's hard to fathom why he's even ahead anywhere in gop polls. :banghead:

And, when Perry points it out, people criticize him for it.

I will NOT vote for Romney in the primaries. I said, in an earlier posting in this thread, that I would "hold my nose" if I had to vote for him (in the General election). I'm not his biggest fan by any means, but he would still be better than that man occupying the White House right now. I'll take someone I can agree with 60% of the time over someone I basically NEVER agree with...that man in the White House is NOT pro-firearms, no matter how quiet he's been on the subject...and I am certain that even if he didn't concoct or order this "Fast and Furious/Gunwalker" business, that he knew and he would have used it to his advantage ala renewal of the AWB if it had worked the way they wanted it to...and that is just to top off all the other stuff I don't like about the guy. I don't care what color he is, but I do care how he conducts business...and his methodology stinks.

Romney will never get my vote either, not in the Primary or in the General. I sincerely believe that nothing would change under Romney (at least not for the better).

I'm voting for a pro gun fiscal conservative in November 2012. If the Republican ticket has someone like that, I will vote for the Republican candidate. If not, they don't want my vote, and I can vote for a third party candidate with a clear conscience.

Not to harp on the subject too much, but bringing this back around to Romney and his positions and not the problems of politicians in general.
GOV. ROMNEY: Let’s describe what it is. I signed–I would have supported the original assault weapon ban. I signed an assault weapon ban in Massachusetts governor because it provided for a relaxation of licensing requirements for gun owners in Massachusetts, which was a big plus. And so both the pro-gun and the anti-gun lobby came together with a bill, and I signed that. And if there is determined to be, from time to time, a weapon of such lethality that it poses a grave risk to our law enforcement personnel, that’s something I would consider signing. There’s nothing of that nature that’s being proposed today in Washington. But, but I would, I would look at weapons that pose extraordinary lethality...
:headscratch :headscratch :headscratch :headscratch

EVERY weapon is designed to be lethal. That's the POINT. I don't want to annoy someone trying to harm me or my family, I want to INCAPACITATE them. I want them to stop hurting me or mine, right now. That requires the ability to employ deadly force.

Besides, I can twist things around so that every modern gun made has "extraordinary lethality". Sounds like a fun game. Easy ones first.

Ar-15/AK-47s- Military assault weapons designed to fire on full auto and kill lots of people. BAN IT.
Every bolt action rifle chambered for a decent cartridge- Lethal ammo designed to penetrate body armor of cops. BAN IT.
Semi auto handguns- Favorite weapons of gangs and drug dealers, too easily concealed and too high capacity. BAN THEM.

Anyone who puts a caveat on our rights like that doesn't believe in them. Period.

I would rather not see Romney in the oval office, but if my choice is between him and Obama I'll have to go for Romney. I would rather see just about any of the other candidates than Romney, but we'll just have to see how it all works out.

One would hope that even Romney would nominate different judges to the Supreme Court than Obama. Remember, we're only ahead by a single vote there. If a vote for a third party candidate allows Obama to win a second term, you can probably kiss the Supremes goodbye.
