I look at it the same as if a state had to recognize your marriage, divorce or driver's license. I don't really see it as any infringement on a States rights.

I just saw this a few minutes ago on Fox. I think it is a good idea. Pass this and make it illegal to have more than one just like a drivers license. That would eliminate the problem that PA chief described. Illinois still doesn't have to issue permits to their own citizens if they don't want to.

BUT........

Bloomberg and Illinois will definitely file a Court Challenge that will last a long time!

But depends on how the Bill is written. If it concerns ONLY States that have CC and does not force NY and Ill, it should have no problem.

I read about this a few days ago and the version I read suggested that the law may only apply in cases where the state already issues permits for CC. Now, NY is a MAY issue state, so, I'm not sure if the proposed law would force NY to honor my TX permit since NY does issue permits.... I would hope that this is the case... If so, only IL would remain off limits.

Just the fact that this law has any traction is awesome.
If anyone know what can be done (in addition to asking my Congressman and Senators to support it).. speak up.

From that POV, if the feds can force a state to accept another's CCW, they can force us to accept a gay marriage license.
Something to think about.

My position is the 2nd Amendment says all that needs to be said.

I'm concerned that this bill, though it benefits us, could be a precedent to establish the feds' role in regulating guns within the states. Is this any different than if they tried to pass a bill stating that a state CANNOT recognize another state's CHL?

Sure, I'd like to know that I can travel freely, armed, across any state. The fact that my state certifies that I am not legally barred from carrying should be good enough.
I'm just not ready to cede yet one more area of personal responsibility to federal oversight.

The bill that SHOULD be making it's way through congress should encode constitutional carry for all law-abiding citizens nationwide, in the spirit of the Founding Fathers.
If I *wished* to carry anything to document that, each state could provide a simple short report on request (by that citizen) identifying any felonies or other reasons that citizen is barred from firearms possession.
My report would say

Felony convictions: none
Mental Health Issues: None

Anything can be manipulated to not meet the original intentions.

I look at this a positive step in the Public Eye. If passed it would lend a degree of legitimacy to the whole CHL/CCW movement.

I agree that the 2nd Amendment in and of itself should suffice, but until that happy-day should arrive, I am willing to take every baby-step necessary to get to that end.
