I realize that this guy is banned already, but his posts cause me to comment on something. I've had plenty of discussions with Ron Paul supporters over the years, and many of them are good at courteous discourse. I might not agree with them, at least not on some things, but at least they are possessed of the social graces, and more importantly, they use them. I have nothing but respect for such people.Apophis wrote:He's good for a laugh to most people, because we've lost our way as Americans. In Egyptian mythology, Apep/Apophis was the god of chaos and darkness. Great name for someone who would seek to participate in governance, which should be the exact opposite of chaos and darkness. I'm assuming that "our" Apophis knows nothing about Greek or Egyptian mythology, but is probably aware of the Stargate character. For a description of that character, CLICK HERE. Not a very nice guy. Why would someone want to take that name as their Internet handle if they weren't a little dysfunctional?From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Apophis (Egyptian Apophis, Apophis) may refer to:
- Apep, an Ancient Egyptian mythological demon, in Greek known as Apophis
- Apepi (pharaoh), a Hyksos pharaoh of Lower Egypt
- 99942 Apophis, a near-Earth asteroid
- Apophis (Stargate), a Stargate SG-1 character based on the Egyptian demon
Judging by some the absolutely vile things that this person posted yesterday evening under a pseudonym, you are not out of line at all. He personifies perfectly what Sean Hannity calls a "Paulien."The Annoyed Man wrote:Why would someone want to take that name as their Internet handle if they weren't a little dysfunctional?
Maybe I'm out of line here, but that is my reaction to this kind of stuff.
Also shows you where our own psychological sets come into play. I knew nothing of the Greek version of Apep, and I’ve never watched Stargate SG-1. So I thought he had merely misspelled “apophasis,” the term in rhetoric that means alluding to something by saying it will not be mentioned. It’s an extremely popular tool in political debate, so I thought it fit...The Annoyed Man wrote:The name "Apophis" has several potential sources, none of them positive (SOURCE):In Egyptian mythology, Apep/Apophis was the god of chaos and darkness. I hope those companies vote for him, because he lost my vote by pandering to antigunners.Heartland Patriot wrote:Is it possible that Governor Perry didn't sign the bill due to the fact that he didn't want to anger big businesses which may be headquartered out of state, perhaps in places that are less pro-2A, and would like to keep those businesses on a friendly footing?
How many bills does Gov. Perry actually sign after the legislative session? I recently read that over 1500 bills and resolutions were sent to the governor from the regular session. Does he actually sign the majority of those, or does he really only sign the few he wants to highlight in public "ceremonial" signings? This is just a guess, but maybe he hasn't signed the parking lot bill not because of any particular political motivation, but because he just doesn't sign the majority of bills that are sent to him?Heartland Patriot wrote: Is it possible that Governor Perry didn't sign the bill due to the fact that he didn't want to anger big businesses which may be headquartered out of state, perhaps in places that are less pro-2A, and would like to keep those businesses on a friendly footing? If there is one thing that I would ascribe to the Governor, its being business-friendly and making sure that they want to come to our state to set up and expand, and fuel our economic engine...maybe it was for other reasons, but this one makes as much sense to me as any other...
How did he do that? Tell us please.raptor wrote:I hope those companies vote for him, because he lost my vote by pandering to antigunners.Heartland Patriot wrote:Is it possible that Governor Perry didn't sign the bill due to the fact that he didn't want to anger big businesses which may be headquartered out of state, perhaps in places that are less pro-2A, and would like to keep those businesses on a friendly footing?
The numbers in those reports don't make any sense. If the 1500 number I read is accurate, what happened to the other 1218 bills. Additionally, if you look at this report:loadedliberal wrote:Signed: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/Reports/Re ... ignedbygov" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Unsigned: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/Reports/Re ... dwogovsign" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Filed without signature 5 vs. Signed 277 I think that speaks for itself.
Looking at the dates this only covers action taken in the last couple of weeks.BrianSW99 wrote:The numbers in those reports don't make any sense. It shows a total of 5527 bills and resolutions that should be on the governors desk.

Those 5 are bills that are effective immediately. The governor has until June 19th to sign bills. The remainder of unsigned bills that are set to become effective Sept. 1st will probably show as filed sometime after that date.loadedliberal wrote:

Thats an awful hard line to take, when his signature is not required for the bill to become law. As long as he doesn't do anything foolish--like pull out his veto pen, I'm not going to sweat the small stuff.raptor wrote:I hope those companies vote for him, because he lost my vote by pandering to antigunners.Heartland Patriot wrote:Is it possible that Governor Perry didn't sign the bill due to the fact that he didn't want to anger big businesses which may be headquartered out of state, perhaps in places that are less pro-2A, and would like to keep those businesses on a friendly footing?
