Re: Special Session???
Friend of mine called the Governor's office on Friday and asked why a special session had not been called and legislation enacted to protect Texans as 38 other states have already stepped in to protect their state's interests. She was told there was nothing to do because the Legislature wasn't in session. I don't think too many Texans would be upset about the calling of a special session over this issue.
To make this all gun related, I do believe I read in one of the initial versions of the hellthcare bill that was being floated around that they considered the presence of firearms in the home to be a grave health risk - especially if there were children in the home.

Everything I read has been people Hypothesizing. I've heard everything from "It'll Ban Smoking/Red Meat/Junk Food" to "They will Microchip your kids!"
Somebody post some evidence. I'll start
Switzerland has Universal Health care, and their are Rifles in Every House. Actually the more I read about Switzerland health care the more I like it. You can have Private Insurance if you want it, but everyone is required to have Health Insurance (Sounds familiar)
Oh also, their are Socialists and REAL Communists in Switzerland, not the Pseudo- Lefties we have here in the USA.

I will leave my opinion out of this as well because I believe what happens is the will of God or will be used for his purpose. I will call and encourage the State to take back our powers and rights from D.C. . I think it should have been done long ago but what has occurred tonight has solidified my opinion.

It's not a "bad word" and the moderators have not censored you for using the word, nor for being one, so stop with the martyr complex.marksiwel wrote:I guess I'm just a dirty "Socialist" (Anyone care to tell me "WHY" thats a bad word?)

Well, then why didn't you just go to WalMart and get some Bayer and Morton's.marksiwel wrote:When I did get a concussion I was charged 30 bucks for asprin, and 200 dollars for an IV (Its Salt and Water!)
Oh yeah, because you were actually paying for someone who knew how to use those properly.

The United States has socialized education, and you can't even remember 4th grade English class.marksiwel wrote:Switzerland has Universal Health care, and their are Rifles in Every House.
Re: Special Session???
Wow. I guess that makes you a communist/socialist. I find that weird. I mean, you obviously support 2nd A rights and other freedoms, but I can't think of any communist countries where people are allowed to have guns and freedom.marksiwel wrote: the main reason we have a government is to HELP PEOPLE.
I'd disagree with you here about the role of the government. The main reason we have a government is to make sure that contracts between men are enforced. That's it. People help people, not the government. In case you forgot, a democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. In other words, the government should be nonexistent, almost. The people do stuff that they would do anyways, regardless of whether there is a government or not.
The sad thing is that people's lives are too short. We cannot remember a day when most men were decent and we helped each other without the government stepping in to do it for them. In the old days, if you wanted your arm fixed and had no money, the doctor would set it for you and accept your chickens as payment. Or he may even take your case as charity. I volunteer once a month at a free clinic to see indigent patients. All of us who work there bring in our drug company samples to give away to these indigent patients for free treatment. Did the government force me to do so ? No. I do it because it is the decent thing to do. And as for the $10 aspirin at the hospitals, you were charged that because that $10 aspirin paid for the nurse, doctor, E.R. room, etc. It was more than just an aspirin. People's lives are just too short to remember that the United States of America did fine for over 100 years with ZERO national income tax, social security, medicaid, medicare, obamacare, and we even had no large standing army. Kids took care of their parent's retirement. Doctors worked with you if you couldn't afford medical care and they even made house calls. If the Apaches, Mexicans, or British attacked, we didn't need a large standing army because the free citizen would volunteer with his own guns and ammo to fight for his homeland. Decent God fearing men did decent things and worked hard to build the greatest nation on earth with ZERO government interference.
I mean, Americans own more guns than all the world's armies combined (200 million guns). We bought more guns in 2009 than the combined total arms inventory of the world's 20 biggest armies. Do we really need to be taxed for a defense budget?! If we can still remember the good 'ol days when doctors worked with you on affording good healthcare, would we really need obamacare? If kids weren't public school brats who don't honor thy elders and took care of aging parents, then would we really need social security? I mean, nobody is alive from the days when kids did not go to a public school but did apprenticeships instead. An apprenticeship program is sort of like a doctor's internship program. I give my interns reading assignments, homework, and research papers to write. In exchange, they'll learn and gain experience by working with responsible ADULTS as peers. In a public school system, the kids peers are crazy kids instead so the peer pressure is not to be a responsible adult. If we were to go back to the apprentice system of education, would we really need a public education buget? I invite you to just think. If you just think about it like that, you'd realize that we would all be better off if we were to shrink the government to its former size in the year 1850. If we paid zero personal income taxes, the economy would flourish, there'd be no more school bullying, and this nation would be great again.
I think Obama himself said it best when he declared that
Why change a great thing and make it worse? America got by fine with zero income tax. The only taxes we had were on tobacco, whiskey, and an import tariff. That's why I'm a conservative. I would like to crank back the clock 160 years to an era when this nation was the fastest growing economy on earth.America is the greatest country on earth. Let's change it.
P.S. Those commie liberals got to Switzerland. Those rifles now have zero ammo in them. The Swiss service rifles used to come with a brick of ammo. The gun banners in Switzerland banned the ammo, which is a sneaky back door way to ban guns.
P.P.S. Let's start writing checks to "tea partier" candidates, folks. I propose that we all budget at least $1000 per person in your family to donate to political causes. If you're in a traditionally liberal state, then better make that $10,000. If our brothers and sisters can give their LIVES for their country, the least we can do is cut a check. Let's do it! Let's make sure big O can't pass gas after the elections!

Those are legitimate government functions.marksiwel wrote: Yes, you also spend YOUR money on paving the roads to make sure I get to work, you spend YOUR money making sure their are police to Protect ME, and you spend YOUR money making sure their are F-35s patrolling the skies against Communist.
Wow -- I think we just found out why we're having this discussion. You seriously don't see the problem with Socialism?? Incredible!marksiwel wrote: I guess I'm just a dirty "Socialist" (Anyone care to tell me "WHY" thats a bad word?)
That's not why we have government. The constitution specifies what the purpose of government is.marksiwel wrote: that I think the main reason we have a government is to HELP PEOPLE.
Something we agree on! Your right, there is no difference. And SS is an excellent example of what will happen with THIS fiasco. After being forced to pay into it for decades -- with ever increasing taxes, it is now broke. Yeah, thanks Democrats for creating and mismanaging that, too.marksiwel wrote:
How many of you old guys are on Medicare or getting Social Security? Tell me how thats different.
Mine sucks, too -- but its still better than this alternative. What SHOULD have been done is a small number of changes to the medical and insurance industries. Tort reform. Med Insurance across state lines. Illegal alien issues. Elimination of pre-existing conditions (maybe -- that's tricky). We could incrementally fix many problems without killing the entire industry. Our entire government was created with a document only about 20 pages long (as printed in the pamphlet i've got). THIS bill was well over 2000 pages! That's absurdly complex. Personally, I believe that bills should be limited to no more than 100 pages -- and that's probably too big. Anything more than that is simply too complex to handle.marksiwel wrote:
hey, making sure their arent sick people helps everyone.
Ask yourself, is your Insurance really working for you? Mine sucks, and I'm doing better insurance wise compared to jobs that pay Twice what I do.

As one of those old guys, I don't draw SS and probably never will. I would love to have had all those extra dollars in my private retirement accounts where it would be there for me have. Oh yeah Medicare is a great Benny from the FEDS that's why anyone that can afford it has suplemental policies.
Do I feel bad for people with nothing, yes. I also feel that it is my right to choose who and how I help. The Federal government has exceeded it's authority over the years so much that it no longer bears any resemblance to it's original mandate.
Sorry but socialism does not work it was a noble experiment that has failed miserably to significantly improve life for the majority, it has helped some but kills the desire of the brightest to excel. Why work and strive and save if your gains go to those who do little to help themselves?

Do you really believe this is not gun related? Anyone who thinks Obama doesn't have us in his sights is living in a dream. "Sensible" restrictions on private gun ownership is something he has talked about many times. We all know sensible means anything liberals think make sense.
