Facebook poll.....

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

I don't see how a link to an article about a poll as to whether the President should be killed is in any way appropriate for this forum (or any other forum, for that matter).

I disagree.

I'm in no way encouraging or condeming what the person did.

I thought it was newsworthy.........and interesting that the Secret Service had it shut down so quickly (I guess their electronic survellience is really working well).

I'm curious as to what the person would be charged with and what people here thought of the incident.

I think it speaks volumes to the current emotional level of the country that someone would actually do something so stupid.

Monitors, if it's inappropriate, please remove the thread and accept my apology.

But I see all kinds of non-gun related political discussions in this forum......

Interesting to me as well.

Free speech only goes so far. Since the poll was on Facebook no one but the creator will know absolutely if it was serious or in jest. I think they did the right thing to shut it down and I believe, regardless of who the president is, that it was inappropriate.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

I heard they took the poll down...And are investigating the source, and anyone who responded in the affirmative...

They were wrong in presenting this poll, and creating yet another reason for the sensitive people to get all worked up at how hateful some people in this country are...

We have the opportunity every two years to effect change...Some of us on a local level get to do things every year...

So we had better hope, and we had better pray that no one takes a shot at any elected official, and take care of the process by means that are much better than pounds of pressure on a trigger...I believe we are wayyyyyyy above the fray when it comes to this...And we are way smarter than the average goob who dwells on this fantasy...

The poll asked a question regarding the assassination of the President. Pretty much everyone automatically assumes that an assassination would be carried out with a firearm, which makes it closer to being gun-related than threads about health care.

I can't believe someone would even create such a thing. Isn't that a crime?

Rotgirl, you obviously touched on a sensitive subject. Perhaps your initial post with the link should have included some descriptive text, such as your followup post.
your link

Having said that, I don't think there was anything negative at all about bringing this poll to public attention.

LOL - From one of the linked articles, this line is great---
Included on the list of the top 100 most popular polls on Facebook was a poll responding to the "should Obama be killed" query, and which asked users to vote, "Should the creator of 'should Obama be killed' be arrested?"

I think most folks are overreacting a bit.

0) Was it smart? No.

1) Was it an arrestable offense? No.

2) Did facebook have the right to remove it? Yes.

3) Should the SS investigate it? I can understand why they would want to, but I would probably have used the poll results to gauge the level of danger they should expect when the President travels in country.

4) Does it at all matter in the grand scheme of things? No.

5) Did I vote for Obama? No.

There were several Kill Bush groups up, and have been there for a couple of years.
