I was just a kid whn Dan Quayle was veep, but looking back, I'd have to agree that Dan Quayle could easily go into the "I need media help" camp. Nowadays he'd probably have gotten the help he needed, and avoided much of that unpleasantness.

I truly wish cloning wasnt a no-no, I'd want to clone Barry Goldwater and have him run again.

The republican party (note the lower case "r") really embarrased me by letting Quayle get sacrificed at the political alter. Then, again, they let the same happen to Newt. I would like to see the three of them together in an administration...talk about a Reagan Revival....

Any conservative with any name recognition at all who runs as a third-party candidate in 2012 GUARANTEES the re-election of Obama. Just ask George HW Bush and Al Gore about third-party candidates from your own side of the political spectrum.
I'm not that sure this time...(If it happens)

I sense a real tangible desire from many Republicans that see what the last few election cycles have done to the "base"...The base is drifting looking for someone to steer it...

One thing you have to really look at is that this is not the first time a party has split, or its base gone off to do a more principled thing by forming another political party in this country...It is not the end of the world, and at this point, if it is broken, it may be time to really fix it...

And I am NOT talking about a libertarian split...I'm talking about a true conservative movement that will draw the fence sitters in as well...This may be a good time to re-organize...Otherwise, it certainly looks like we are standing still...And in this day and age of communication and information, speed is life...And we need to kick it into high gear and catch up...

mr. surveyor:

I heard someone's (Dennis Miller's?) 2012 preference for
Republican Prez/VP candidates as Newt Gingrich / Sarah Palin.

This ticket would be "Newtie and The Beauty" !

Palin's Popularity in the GOP Soars After Quitting

Apparently Sarah Palin's decision to quit her post as Governor of Alaska wasn't as misguided as it sounded at first, because it has certainly already begun to work it's magic on winning over the Republican party. According to a new USA Today/Gallup Poll, her popularity has surged amongst Republicans since she made the announcement.

71 percent of Republicans said they would vote for Palin if she ran for president in 2012, and three-fourths believe that Palin has been treated unfairly by the media.

Two-thirds of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future, while three-fourths of Democrats are hoping that she won't be. Independents by 55%-34% would prefer she leave the national stage.

http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/10607" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now, why do you believe her popularity is souring, within the GOP???

We could certainly assertain that the reason this is getting so much airtime is because maybe that is what the DNC wants people who lean to the right in politics to believe...

What I find interesting about her (Palin) is that she brings basics back to the table...And considering that the nominal politician likes how complicated things are, she kinda injects a little of us into the process, and they do not like that...On both sides of the aisle...

Where McCain was a "maverick", his ideals were middle of the ground, sometimes to the right, but mainly to appease the left...

Palin balanced that out with a "maverick" lable, that when you looked deeper, it brought some middle of the ground positions to the table, yet leaned to the right, and didn't pull punches with the left...She struck a corde with the grassroots conservatives...

All in all I believe we should continue to watch what she says and does over the next year or so, and see how this fairs out...Somewhere, someone of notoriety is going to have to make an announcement about where this might be going soon...

How this fits into our issues...Well, I believe whatever happens, it is going to resonate, and draw many gun owners into it...

Just my opinion...

Let's look at a few other ideas about her situation:

She couldn't take the political heat in a small-population state.
How will she react at such time that she resumes a national campaign?

As far as Alaskans being independent, let's keep in mind that Alaska
receives a much higher dollar amount of Federal tax receipts than they
pay in. Is this independence, or the simple use of OPM (other people's
money)?

John F. Kerry was criticized for ignoring the Swift Boat attacks and not
refuting their allegations early and often.

Sarah Palin was involved recently in squabbling with David Letterman.
Yes, she was responding to the crude jokes, but does a person with
potential Presidential aspirations need to be arguing with a comedian?

You know what they say:
Don't argue with a fool. Bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

I wouldn't consider the personal attacks on her children and family to be "political heat". If the left has differences of opinion with her political views, that's fine ... it's what democracy is all about. But, when one group visiously attacks an individual of another group in a non-political sense ... that's personal. And when it extends to children, that's just downright wrong. I figure it takes a very devoted parent to consider sacrificing a career in order to protect the future of their children. If that is part of Palin's considerations in making her recent decision, more power to her. The media will continue to do what they do best ... cast all conservatives in the worst light possible, and never extoll the virtues of any conservative leaning person. The sad part is how the Republican party machine is now about as spineless as a garden slug and as worthless as a zinc die-cast handgun. If the party leadership defended it's own good people from these sleazy personal attacks as well Palin has defended her children, we would have never lost the zeal of the Gingrich led Republican Revolution. How is it that degenerates like Barney Frank and Chirs Dodd have been insulated from major attacks... in part because the media will not continue to report the stories hour by hour and day by day.

I really hope that Palin is doing this now for the reason og giving her family a chance to recover from the slime bath they've been given by the leftist garbage. Then I hope she comes back with a vengance.

:iagree:

Remember when the Obama family was the butt of some derogatory comments last year? BHO bristled and declared his family "off limits", and that was the end of that, at least as far as the kids were concerned. His wife is still fair game.
Doesn't seem to work that way when it's a Republican family.

The problem with the last election aside from the welfare vote was that Palin was the only candidate that represented American values. I held my nose to vote for McCain considering him liberal lite rather then someone who represented smaller government and more personal liberty. Sarah Palin has the opportunity to be heard saying the things that need to be said.

and her lexicon. I like ALOT of what she stands for, I just despise her presentation - and it hurts her politically, I think. A number of people I know think she's an idiot. They never bothered to listen to what she has to say because of how she says it, and they will never give her the chance. She may have a good foothold among republicons, but it's the independent crowd she has to win over. I don't know if she can do that, especially with the demo-rats trying to bury her.
