Do I still have that defense if I'm wearing protective glasses knowing that their attempt to harm me is unlikely to be successful or does their intent provide me with enough justification?
I also looked up some protective glasses and there is a pair that I like than will protect from the green laser de jour (532nm) and near IR at about 808nm that are not much more than what I paid for my Oakley's many years ago.

Agree with him or not, on this matter or any other, but here's a brief item with videos that Gabe Suarez posted today about aggressive use of lasers:

I don't know enough to believe or not believe him on the laser issue of what is being used by the protesters with regards to the power. However, he says they are using 5W lasers and then says a dog laser is 5 thousand milliwatts.Rafe wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 1:31 pm Agree with or not, on this matter or any other, but here's a brief item with videos that Gabe Suarez posted today about aggressive use of lasers:

Yeah. I don't know who that is in the first video, but it isn't Suarez.C-dub wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 2:49 pmI don't know enough to believe or not believe him on the laser issue of what is being used by the protesters with regards to the power. Class 4 lasers start at 501 milliwatts and, technically, I believe all Class 4s require a permit to possess in the U.S. But a quick search shows that there seem to be a number of websites that will happily sell them to you. Our common laser aiming devices operate at around 5mW...which is no doubt what the guy meant about dog lasers. Lasers for engraving metal start at around 30mW, and 75mW or 80mW is more common because they cut much faster.

Re: Deadly force against blinding lasers
I must be far more naive than I thought I was. I had no idea one could purchase a laser capable of cutting into metal. When I first heard the officers had been blinded by anticrud aiming them at their eyes I must admit I was perplexed. I did not know these were even available.Rafe wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 3:47 pmYeah.
