Court upholds right to defend against police officer

I didn't find this already posted, but this article mentions the Houston PD incident...

https://www.ammoland.com/2020/04/court- ... z6KBSIZSMI

On 20 August, 2015, in Brevard County, Florida, John DeRossett, 55, shot and severely wounded a Brevard County sheriff's deputy.

There was strong evidence DeRossett did not know the men accosting his niece were deputies. None of the deputies were in uniform. His statements, immediately after the event, and in the hospital, were all consistent with the belief that unknown men were attempting to kidnap his niece.

On 15 April, the Fifth District Court of appeals dismissed the charges against him. They ruled that mere knowledge that criminal activities, such as prostitution, had occurred, is not “furthering criminal activities”.

5 years! WOW

I hope there will be lawsuits filed against that department. There should also be assault charges against the the men that grabbed her and dragged her out of her home and into the front yard.

Good, we need change from the status-quo. right now the law is far too enabled against the individual and allows far too much in the way of abuse of authority.

Add in the current status-quo in regards to police "use of force" at the lethal level and things need to change severely, rulings such as this are a step in the right direction.

Everyone should be accountable for their actions; as a strong supporter of LE I feel they should be given the benefit of the doubt but when that doubt is reasonable or even criminal LE should be held to a standard lest We the People loose trust.

I support the law BUT cops are just people like everyone else. Not all of them are stand-up citizens. There are a few i know from when we were all in our teens that were criminals they just never caught. Drugs, dwi, assault, vandalism. Not anybody i would trust if they pulled me over.
