For this reason, the Defensive Gun Use Database isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list of all such incidents occurring in the United States. Such a database would be nearly impossible to compile.

Instead, this database features only cases that could be discovered and verified through public sources, and where the evidence indicates no wrongdoing on the part of the gun owner.

Glad they defined the database this way, and really hope they can maintain the data and keep it up-to-date.

And Amy just posted an answer to a question about DGU that is not posted on the site that has external source documentation. That will help populate the database with even more DGU stats.

We're currently working on a mechanism to allow readers to provide documentation for cases we may have missed! Will definitely give an update when that portion is completed!
