By the way, AR stands for ArmaLite Rifle, which is manufactured by Colt Manufacturing Co.
Two criticisms....

AR stands for ArmaLite, period. While it is true that they mostly built rifles, ArmaLite has also designed and built pistols and shotguns, the model numbers of which also begin with"AR". The number following the "AR" designation is merely the firearm's design number.

Furthermore, this article is dated a full month after Colt's announced that it was stopping manufacture of AR15s for the civilian market.

Other than that, the article is pretty much correct.

Certainly a good read and a very sensible discussion of the topic!

I would add that a federally funded study of the effectiveness of the expired "assault weapon" ban was found to be ineffective at stopping crime because these weapons are so rarely used in crime it could NEVER have a noticeable effect.

Also military weapons are specifically protected by the 2nd Amendment and therefore the AR-15s (either semi-auto or as originally designed full auto) are both protected.

Many of the most recent mass shootings (New Zealand and El Paso specifically, and Ohio by inference) were intended by the murderers to promote gun control. By advancing gun control, that would be advancing the agenda of those mass murderers and encouraging more mass murder.

The majority of gun control advocates (in politics) are aware of this. It's been around plenty long enough for them to know.

Most don't refer to the weapon (AR-15) as an 'Assault Rifle' because they are ignorant, they do it because their constituency is ignorant.

They know full well...they have an uninformed base, and they know it plays well (emotionally) to that base. They purposely use buzz words that make the rifle sound inherently evil. Facts and statistics are thrown to the side since they don't support their narrative.

And frankly, liberals tend not to be the most intellectually honest group to start with. Just give them a 'cause' and they will use any means to achieve it. I'm starting to think it is a form of mental illness, not just a different view of things.
