I do not like this aspect of how this is being handled.
I do not like this either, but at least they are accommodating students that do choose to arm themselves. It would be better if they just installed locks in every dorm room and left it alone.

This. I know when I lived in a dorm, all those many years ago, it would have been nice to have a small safe even if you didn't store a gun in it. Seems like a relatively trivial expense that would benefit every resident, LTC or not.

It really makes me wonder if a student must inform the university or if they can purchase their own safe and put it in their locker or closet or whatever and not tell anyone and keep it to themselves. And if asked just tell them it is for valuables.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

It's worse that that. Once it gets out to the general student population (and then to the general public) that specific rooms are reserved for specific people with specific habits of carrying expensive items with them, those people can become targets.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

I never lived on campus when I was in college, I had friends that did and those that did not get along with their roommates would never leave things they consider valuable around their dorms. A small expense considering how much you have to pay to stay in the dorms

I would think it is in the student handbook before hand to not have firearms in your dorm. I am sure they made them sign agreements to not have one there, now that campus carry is in effect I wouldn't see why your idea is a problem. I would not disclose my status as an LTC holder to anyone that did not need to know.
