I can almost get behind Cruz. However, his recent statements on patrolling Muslim neighborhoods is one of two things:
1) Dangerously ignorant. Patrolling neighborhoods of US citizens of a specific religion runs contrary to the constitution and shoots us back to the 1940s roots of rounding up Japanese Americans. It shows a lack of basic understanding of where terrorists come from. Alienating the domestic Muslim population is going to create many more terrorists than it would ever prevent
2) Political pandering to keep up with Trump. He doesn't actually believe what he's saying, but he's willing to say it anyway for get elected. This is less offensive to me than #1, but it shows that we're doing politics as usual.
