HOMBRE, the movie

#1

Post by Oldgringo »

Mrs. Oldgringo and I watched the half century old :fire movie, "HOMBRE", last evening. The theme of that movie; i.e., six people of low intestinal fortitude expecting one person with a gun to protect them from the bad guys is as current today, if not more so, than it was when the movie was released in '67.

Great movie! Not a single cuss word with no nekid people.

I love that movie. One of my favorite lines in all Westerns is at the end...

"I would like at least to know his name... "

One of my favorites. Has a couple of firearm anachronisms, but you'd have to look close.

And I just watched "Nevada Smith" starring Steve McQueen a few days ago. Loved it. Some of those old westerns were good stuff.

Anyone notice the button magazine on Newmans '73 Win. Not many were made and sure was a cool looker

One of the anachronisms I allude to was his pistol in the final shootout. In the climax Newman's SSA has changed into a double action revolver. He makes several shots in quick succession. I have seen the movie countless times and never noticed until the last time I viewed it. I replayed it several times and froze it and saw it was not a SAA and was a double action. I just saw on the wiki post joe817 made it was in fact a Colt Police Positive. There's also debate on his rifle. Some say it's a '73 Winchester button mag and some say it's a'76.

My favorite "Hombre" quote is "How are you planning to get back down that hill?"
