KATY (FOX 26) - The City of Katy moves from no carry in 2015, to open carry in 2016, at public meetings. The state's new open carry law prompted a discussion and the decision, but there was division among the council members.

"When you see somebody carrying a gun, turn around and walk out," said Tom McClain. "Tell the manager why you're leaving."

McClain says he's a former Harris County Deputy.

"I just don't think people in general, especially young people, are mature enough to carry a gun," McClain said.
This guy gives a poor impression of LEO's. Either he was misquoted or he is simply ignorant of the law. "Young people" are not allowed to carry weapons. You have to be over 21 (18 with limited exceptions). And if he considers a 21 year old to be too immature to carry a gun, then we need to fire a lot of the LEO's in this country.

Maturity isn't determined by age. It happens different for everyone. Just like you may have an immature 21 year old. You could also have a 41 year old immature person.

And take away a lot of drivers licenses and cars from the "children" under 21.

Wow. The Lake Woebegone effect in reverse. I guess in Katy the women are all helpless, the men are all unpleasant looking, and the young people are all below average.

So this former Harris County Deputy may not have any ties with Katy at all? He was just a bystander that walked by and commented

Those of you that know, please clarify something for me. I thought that meetings of any government entity (ie. city council) were off limits from carrying period. Did this change 1/1/16? Or, has there been a requirement in place already that those places had to post signs?
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Go back and read penal code 46.035 again. Read all the way down to section (i).

Well, I think you were actually referring to 46.035, and thanks for the tip. Read it again. Also found out that the language changed due to SB 273.

Thank you.

I have no idea. There isn't enough info provided to answer your question. Note, part of Katy does fall within Harris County.

Sorry. It is from the story about the OC "demonstration" at a Katy Starbucks. I was looking at both threads and posted in the wrong one. Not sure how I managed to do that.

Gee, I wonder when Houston city council will start allowing OC?
