Amarillo Commissioners vote to ban guns in area courthouses

Gaines County is pulling this stunt too, they have a commissioners court meeting tomorrow and I plan to be there.

I have a new wish list for legislation I would like to see passed in the 2017 legislative session, and I am tentatively calling part of it "Commissioners not Commissars" in honor of my county commissioners court.

San Patricio County has 06 and 07 signs also for the entire courthouse building even though it is also a multi-use facility.

I've gone to several commissioner meetings but have never said anything. They make it difficult to make public comment.

Update on Potter County. They not only are not going to respect the law nor the three separate complaints regarding the unlawful placement of 30.06. They have purchased and are installing this week the new updated wording 30.06 and installing 30.07. Hopefully the AG takes action quickly.

I visited the Houston courthouse on Franklin st a few days ago. I watched the townhall meeting and they mentioned that they would/should have lock boxes for any LTC. There were two lines leading out both side doors. All the glass doors along the front of the courthouse were locked with chains. Posted at the side door was a 46.03 sign. I continued closer and closer towards the metal detectors. Near the glass doors I spotted a pair of constables. I stepped out of line to ask about these so called "lock boxes."

"Excuse me. I have an LTC."

"You have a what?"

"I have a liscense to carry. I heard there would be lock boxes provided for us?"

The constables smiled. Perhaps it was a mix of surprise and pity?

"No sir, you need to take it back to your vehicle."

"I saw the meeting where they said you would have lock boxes."

"No sir, you can't bring that in here. That's a felony, you need to return it to your vehicle."

"Oh, no no, I didn't bring it in I just wanted to know if there were really lock boxes."

The constables were friendly throughout the exchange, I thanked them for their time, and got back in line.

I removed my jacket and shoes. Secured to my belt concealed, was my empty holster, I removed these and tossed them into the bin to be x rayed. An officer saw my holster and kind of jumped back a step, there was a pause like he was waiting for the punchline. I walked through the metal detector and off it went. I had forgotten my car keys and wallet. I placed these into the bin and removed my hat as directed and walked back through.

I had never been in a court room before and was surprised by how many people were wearing sweatpants, jeans, and other athletic wear. By context, I could have been mistaken for a lawyer if I simply had a briefcase.

When I contested a ticket and showed up to court I was in a suit. The bailiff without asking anything sent me inside to sit with the lawyers, while everyone was waiting outside the courtroom. When I was asked who I was representing, I said noone I am here about a ticket. I got asked why i came inside. Told them the bailiff just waved me in so I assumed I was supposed to be here. Had to go wait outside with all the people in house shoes, and sweat pants. Was over in Fort Worth.
