Donald Trump supports national reciprocity law

Trump continues to make statements that make me scratch my head, yet he says a lot of things that make me want to support him. I guess only time will tell..

Re: Donald Trump supports national reciprocity law
I admit I did not expect this from Trump. I thought he'd be more wishy-washy on RKBA.
Here's the link to his position statement: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/ ... ent-rights.
The only gripe I have is...
Trump corrects himself in the very next paragraph:
http://www.ijreview.com/2015/12/500547-gun-violence/: When she’s on the campaign trail, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton touts the talking point that “33,000 people die each year due to ‘gun violence...' When all is said and done, according to the 2011 stats, 850 homicides were caused by a person with a legally purchased and licensed gun compared to, for example, “700 beaten to death by somebody with their bare hands” that same year. That’s not quite “33,000.”

IMHO, the Founders didn't have only self-defense in mind. The 2nd is about prevention of tyranny.Donald Trump wrote:Our Founding Fathers knew, and our Supreme Court has upheld, that the Second Amendment’s purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. This is about self-defense, plain and simple.
Trump corrects himself in the very next paragraph:
And I won't hold my breath for Hillary to come out and say this:Donald Trump wrote:It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights.
Don't know where this will end or who will have my support, but I do support this position statement. Don't mess with the Constitution; enforce the laws that are already on the books rather than try to create new ones--which will only affect law-abiding citizens; remove the ban on our military from carrying on their bases; and someone, somewhere in the Bloomberg and Soros organizations: actually read the annual FBI reports!Donald Trump wrote:Law enforcement is great, they do a tremendous job, but they can’t be everywhere all of the time. Our personal protection is ultimately up to us. That’s why I’m a gun owner, that’s why I have a concealed carry permit, and that’s why tens of millions of Americans have concealed carry permits as well. It’s just common sense. To make America great again, we’re going to go after criminals and put the law back on the side of the law-abiding....
Gun and magazine bans are a total failure. That’s been proven every time it’s been tried....
There has been a national background check system in place since 1998. Every time a person buys a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer – which is the overwhelming majority of all gun purchases – they go through a federal background check. Study after study has shown that very few criminals are stupid enough to try and pass a background check – they get their guns from friends/family members or by stealing them....
The right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving – which is a privilege, not a right – then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege....

33,000 deaths and how many of those are self defense? How many of those are law enforcement shooting deaths. That number itself doesn't tell the whole story.Skiprr wrote:I admit I did not expect this from Trump. I thought he'd be more wishy-washy on RKBA.

I don't see any conflict between those two statements, or any need for correction. What is "prevention of tyranny" if it's not self defense against the most heinous and deadly criminals throuout history - corrupt government?Skiprr wrote:I admit I did not expect this from Trump. Are you sure, really sure you want to give the Federal Government the ability to regulate the carrying of arms. Remember, virtually ALL federal property is a gun free zone, regardless of party in power. I would certainly encourage the states to get together on this, as previously mentioned Texas can push this along by suspending unilateral agreements if the state refuses to propose a pathway to a bilateral agreement. This will not happen, because in the end, all the politicians protect their own interests first, not the peoples.
By willingly giving the Feds jurisdiction over this, you essentially lose your rights, states rights.
The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) to the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791.[1] It expresses the principle of federalism, which strictly supports the entire plan of the original Constitution of the United States of America, by stating that the federal government possesses only those powers delegated to it by the United States Constitution. All remaining powers are reserved for the states or the people. source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Ame ... nstitution

Trump is saying the right things but one really needs to look at his past. Has he changed? I don't know but a tiger rarely looses their stripes

Re: Donald Trump supports national reciprocity law

I totally agree with this. Personally, I believe Trump's stated beliefs are about as trustworthy as Wendy Davis saying she supports open carry. It's all about saying what he thinks the voters want to hear. Of course this belief of mine stems from a feeling that Trump's level of honesty and integrity is on par with Davis's. I think he'll say whatever will get him elected, then do whatever he really wants once in office.
I prefer Ted Cruz as a candidate. He's been on the side of the constitution from the beginning. The issues he talks about are his core beliefs, not just talking points.

Not sure I agree. I guess the devil is in the details, but how is this any different from the argument the gay marriage advocates were making that a marriage license in one state has to be recognized in all states under the Full Faith and Credit clause? If the courts want to be consistent, then the courts should just order that all states recognize other states CHL's - period, end of discussion. Then we don't have to worry about a Schumer-type politician mucking it up with some silly loophole or restrictions that are bound to be in any law that's passed.tlt wrote:Are you sure, really sure you want to give the Federal Government the ability to regulate the carrying of arms. I don't trust him either. I trust him more than Hillary, but I'd trust the guy mugging me more than I'd trust her. I would rather see Cruz win.
