Can new mayor legally ban open carry?
Can the new mayor legally get an exemption and ban open carry through out Houston? It seems as if he wants to start stripping away at Houston's guns rights.

Nope, it's kinda like the UT anti campus carry people whining and groping about campus carry. There is only so much the mayor can do, the law is the law, and as long as we have a mostly conservative legislature and a conservative governor, we will enjoy or open carry rights.
To the new mayor wanting to rid Houston of guns I say: molon labe!!!!!

As you can see, only the Legislature can do that.Texas Constitution wrote:Sec. 23. RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.
Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams

I appreciate the clarity on the concern! I actually feel a bit relieved this Monday morning.
